I think that what he means is you are what makes his life shine.. You are the diamond in his rough... Life around him might be tough but as long as he has you.. LIFE IS MMMM GOOD!!!
to me, the only time I have ever heard that statement is in a complimentary way, to me it means you have a great deal of potential, they see someone who with the right guidance and leadership of suggestions could be that dazzling diamond which when it gleams catches everyones eye. plus it usually refers to a rare gem, and in amongst a crowd you have one that shines brightly, but the stunning beauty is still glimmering thru the rough stuff.
