I'm wondering what the general opinion on this is. Yeah he's a nasty, evil, twisted dictator who has committed genocide to his own people but is hanging the right thing? Surely it will make him into a Martyr, would it not be safer for the world as a whole to have him locked up for the rest of his natural life? So what do you think?? I know it's a heavy question but when it was all over the papers today I really thought those in power haven't thought it through and what the possible reprocussions were. Maybe that's just me and that's why I would appreciate anyone else opinion.

Have you been on a desert island in the middle of the thames today lighter timeslaugh He was martyed at 03:00 gmt today, Answer to your question- My opion is what right did they have to commit such a political murder, The trial was a show case farce Saddam never had access to a Lawyer for the last 12 months, Now i know he was a brutal leader so is Robert Mugabe what is happening about him, A hornets nest has been awoken here and the USA and UK can expect a huge bacjlash in days, weeks, months, and years to come, Why was he not sent to the International war crimes court in the Hauge for trial? The new Iraqi goverment and law were ill prepared for a trial like this and Saddam did not receive the respect he should of been given he was already treated like a guilty man way before any verdict was given, I could go on i will stop i am angry, Nice to see Saddam end his life with dignity no fuss, The west wanted him to break down in tears and apologise and he did not give them the satisfactionwine

I've very kindly, thanks to my kids, had sky movies on since I opened my eyes this morning. I agree with you scouser and what worries me is that it's the normal everyday people who are totally innocent of any decisions made by those in power that will suffer any backlash! It is wrong how he stood trial and I am no way defending the bloke but he was a condemned man from the moment they found him. To be honest it's all been a circus based upon power - maybe, and I probably shouldn't say this, but does it not make you wonder what the true motive was behind it when we look back to the so called 'intelligence' about the weapons of destruction! May he rest in peace though, for he didn't at any stage act totally alone!

When you run a country like Saddam did people within your own country will try and topple you try and murder you, He found out he murdered them, I know a lot of innocent people got in the way these things happen, Just like when we are Bombing Afghanistan and Iraq innocent people are getting in the way, Saddam was a friend of the west a great personal friend of Donald Rumsfeld who gave him what arms he requested during the 8 year war with Iran, The same with Bin Laden a great friend of the USA who gave him there full backing when he was fighting the Russians, Moral of my story make friends with Americans at your perilwine

I agree with stu on this one, our government and judicial system is a farce and had been for a while, there is no justice anywhere anymore.
