While I was awol, there has been a few changes on CS. That silly young man who inundated here with short rants disappeared and CS ripped my awesome profile picture. I was amusing myself with my new stereo system which I spent a little fortune. I decided to buy them because it is still a lot cheaper than spending hard earned money to please newly met strange woman who I’ve never known before in my life on dating. I’m done with that sheit.
Listening to music has been my best hobby as well as my companion for all my life and I spent quite a lot of my energy to study all different stereo systems and related theories. And there is a group of subculture who are audio enthusiasts and usually spend ridiculous amount of money for all kinds of audio equipment. It is called audiophile. I’ve been watching these various audiophile forums, magazines, debates for over three decades and found very interesting similarity to religion.
That subculture shows exact replica of how the religion is created from its inception to maturity and dominance to main culture. From the get-go I laughed at all the talking and belief of audiophile’s myths and miracles. It is complete non-sense but it is impossible to change their belief.
They developed their own coined terms and words on their dialogue and built sense of community to enhance mutual closeness just like ordinary cult and religion. Are they usually scientists or engineers who are familiar with acoustic theory or electronics? Not at all. Just like Global Warming cult. I myself has degree in physics, it seems what they are saying is pseudo-scientific ridiculous non-sense, but they look down on whoever disagree with them as idiot showing mercy to those poor soul. Just like ordinary religion, praying for poor soul.
That community of subculture is fairly large which consists of huge believers scattered all around the globe, and there exists various audio makers who cater to these people and are thriving by selling very special stereo equipment. Their firm belief on ‘tube sound’ can not be overthrown by any adversary proof or facts.
Now it became an unofficial status of religion, anyone who refuses to believe will be stigmatized just like ‘Global warming’ or other religion. There is one scientist and engineer who devoted all his life to develop audio system and has a few patents. He has written very detail explanation about the science of acoustics and theory of acoustic electronics on many sites and he has his own manufacturing firm. But his statement on the truth never reaches to the ears of audiophiles. He is completely ignored by the subculture members. Just like Global warming.
I thought it is very fascinating and dare to speak this subject at the risk of being stoned. Good to see you folks.
