*mope* That's a shame. When it comes to cursing, swearing and blaspheming the Maltese really can push the boat out far.

Oh well *shrugs and puts on a deep-sea diver's helmet*

I'll see what others come up with.

Wed, i'm not a language expert but it doesn't always pan out as we do not always have literal translations.

In the old days my grandfather would use "Ghall-infern" which literally translated would mean "to hell with it". That was used to express frustration when something went wrong. Others use "U X-xjafek" which could mean "Damned". When someone says "ghamel li x-xjafek tridt" it would mean "do what the hell (damn) you like" As you can see connotations change.

Others might be able to correct me on this...

*laughing* today we use something else but it is not appropriate for forums...not this one at least.

Maybe you could start with something simpler?

Well, as you know there are 11 official languages in South Africa... thats just the southern tip of Africa! ... including English and Afrikaans which is spoken by most people, depending on the regions.

The Bantu (Black) languages have some realy cute idioms.... like if someone is realy annoyed and wishes bad luck on a person... what he says will translate into "I wish him a sick dog"... because they keep dogs for hunting, and a sick dog is a drain on vital resources and costs money for treatment.
