So, all of you in Washington State, how hard did you get hit in your area last winter?
Here, we got enough rain for some people to have water problems, but living on a hill and all, much less than others.

Well - the windstorm knocked out power for about a week. Just a bit cold inside with no heat. It was the lack of light that got to me though - tough to read by candlelight with your fingers freezing off.

The snowstorm was relatively mild stuff - had to walk about 15 miles to get home on that Monday night. Other than that, it was no problem.

Besides, we have short memories here - that allows us to tolerate each new winter of darkness and cold and to only remember the endless summers of drought. The place is just a dustbowl waiting to happen...I'm ready to write the Grapes of tukwila - the saga of an itinerant software programmer in search of work after leaving the dustbowl of Redmond.

For me, the damages were a new starter, battery and air filter for my car totaling about $450. On top of the standard oil change and tune up I shelled about a little over 600 clams this week past. I know the battery failed it's load test due to a dead cell resulting from the bitter winter cold, and the starter likely died faster due to the climate as well.

Such is life,

Mark
