I am East Tennessee born and bred, and DAMNED PROUD OF IT! I must admit, however, that I have been embarrassed and horrified at the way most of the men in this area present themselves on CS. How is it, I wonder, that our "men folk" have become "ignorant and proud of it"??? You've sold yourselves short. I know the men of this area to be kind, good-hearted, honest, and genuine. So, tell me how you can be satisfied with that and that alone? Do you really want to represent yourselves as a "Jethro?" Do you want women world-wide to consider you a laughable character worthy of a Beverly Hillbillies episode? If so, ignore this thread. If not, then REDEEM YOURSELVES! (Mitchell and Charlie are exempted from defending themselves, as they are already proven!!) One does not need to be highly educated to be worthy of respect. Please, guys, give the gals of CS a chance to know the quality of a true Southern gentleman!!! ('Cause, I think those gals need and want high-caliber men.

Would a Western Plainsman, transplanted to the South, do the trick? (I think maybe I might be capable of displaying good manners...) (I know I've got good taste in beautiful womanhood!)

I think I can measure up, given a chance. Or do I have to really become acclimated before I qualify?

Mitchell, I am once again in your debt! While I have long prided myself on my linguistic and dialectic capabilities, I am, in reality, multilingual illiterate - That is to say that I can't read or write in half a dozen different languages. I will print out your "Southern Thesaurus" and carry it with me to be relied upon during those times when spittin, chewin' and drawing "pitchers" in the dirt with a stick simply won't suffice.

YMHOS,

Yes, of course. You have a great start by being a gentleman already and being interested in the correct use of language. As I've said before, your mother had no idea she was raising a Southerner, but she did a damned good job of it. Too, Mitchell has given you an English-to-Southern dictionary, so you're already two steps up in the game laugh

As for your good taste in women: blushing and thank you! If you get any better at chivalry, I'll have to start calling you "Rhett"!

Well my friend, some people were taught how to behave when they were children, others, well they will never learn. I think it is just animal behavior.

They might well attract another "animal", but a real lady will never respond to that kind of trash.

BTW, welcome to Tennessee, and to Cookeville.

Yes Ma'am, I reckon they do at that! And, sometimes, a very real EXCEPTIONAL lady will respond to a gentleman/Plainsman from Kansas and he will move to Tennessee just to bask in her glory.grin

Marlon, this reply as much for Gibby6117 as for you. As far as your post to my thread, I respond by saying I went WAY out of TN to find my man--all the way to Kansas, in fact! And, I'm happier than I thought possible. (Thanks for the invite to visit West TN, anyway.) yay By the way, where the Hell is Pinson?

Gibby, did you read Marlon's post? That's what I'm talking about. More refined minds are more likely to be ABLE to get a good woman. (Or, should we assume you aren't looking for good/classy women?) It's your choice, my friend. If you're ignorant and proud of it, go for it and be happy. Not so high and mighty here, just making an assumption that you were looking for a LADY. If honky-tonk's and that ilk are your preference, I would never presume to judge. Was merely trying to give the "home boys" some friendly advice, that's all. peace
