Halloween is my favorite day of the year! I love shopping for costumes and dressing up. This year PLarkin and I are going as Robespierre and Marie Antoinette.
We decided to rent our costumes from the Guthrie Theatre this year, and they are perfect! Originally worn by actors in a French farce. Look for pictures in Nov.
Last year I went as Red Sonya - a very memorable costume. The year before I went as Stephen King's Carrie.
I always go to the same venue every year. This place has thousands of people and a huge party. It is near impossible to make it as one of the finalists in the costume contest since the people there have such extravagant costumes each year and really go all out. But every year I try.
It is so much fun to see how far people go. I can't believe the makeup, and the special effects, that people have. My favorite costume last year were these three guys that went as the Red Hot Chili Peppers...they walked around totally naked save a sock, in the club and on the street. And remember it is COLD this time in Minnesota! Poor guys.
The year before, a guy dressed as a demon, who carried a walking stick with a head on it that could move its head and eyes looking very real, and a torch blew fire out of the head, on command. Seemed kind of dangerous, but it was amazing!
Anyway, tell us about your halloween plans this year. What are you dressing up as? Are you going to a house party or a club or bar; or are you going trick or treating with the kids or staying home to greet trick-or-treaters?
Im going to a house party. The people having the party get really decked out, they love Holloween. This year is an island theme and I'm not sure yet what to be. Here are my thoughts, a really obvious tourist, a kangaroo, an ant.
TallB takes her Halloween seriously. There has been no domestic bliss in the plarkin/tallb home since Halloween has been on the horizon. We stay up to all hours looking at costumes and wigs online -- though the costumes we eventually got from the Guthrie are spectacular. TallB has warned me to not expect any sleep on Monday (Halloween) night and to not even think about working on Tuesday.
Our house has been in a turmoil with all the remodeling activity but things have started to come together finally and if we can survive Halloween we should be back to normal!
We just got back from our first night of halloween. I didn't realize how hard it would be to deal with so much dress! People kept stepping on my dress and it was a tough to walk in it, but I managed. I wanted to have a dress that was very dramatic and that flared out a lot, and so I wore a bum roll, under my dress...which is essentially padding on your hips and butt.
This venue we went to, Calhoun Beach Club, was pretty tame. Most people dressed as the usual...lots of your standard costumes... naughty school girls, nurses, witches etc. We'll be going out on Saturday and Sunday, but Monday will be my most favorite party, at my favorite club where the costumes are so amazing. Tonight, we couldn't decide which club to go to (plarkin wanted to go downtown to BarFly instead of uptown and I wanted the opposite), and got into a little fight about it, and then ended up missing the costume contest, otherwise I think we would have had a shot. Oh well, tomorrow night we'll try again! We have three more days...
Arabella, Plarkin looked great in his powdered wig! :)
