I agree with both of you, Cardsfan and Walker. According to Shamanic beliefs, the spirit is what comes from above, from God, eternal, the Divine and is in no hurry in this life because it is pleased by balance and order and it part of the cycle of The Great Spirit, which is always being re-born. Whereas the soul on the other hand, is your mission in life, your destiny and knowing that it only has one turn on the wheel of life, it is what drives you to complete this mission with a sense of urgency. Soul is all the things that are unique to you, your circumstance, your abilities and gifts, etc. According to these beliefs, you cannot live without spirit because it is the real you. However, you can live without most of your soul, as it can tend to misguide you by its wanting to experince all things in this lifetime, or cycle and can get you off track from your main purpose or mission. Is this the way that you both believe? And if so, then why do we search for our "soulmate" and not our "spiritmate"?
Yeah really, I don't see any difference whatsoever. Just two different words for the same thing.
There are other semantics for these words too. When we say that someone's 'spirit' is low we really mean their 'mood' is low. We don't mean to imply that they are somehow low on spirit.
Lots of semantics for these words that have nothing to do with the core of our essence.
From my point of view my spirit and soul are the very same thing.
However, I also believe that I cannot be separated from god because I am not a separate entity.
Some people do believe that they can indeed be separated from god and still exists in their own right. For them perhaps a their soul is different from their spirit.
But if they can exist without god then wouldn't that ultimately mean that they are individually a god in their own right?
I am this universe. I cannot exist separate from it. God is the universe. Therefore I am god. As are we all. We have no individual separate existence. That’s just the illusion of the ego.
Some people think that it’s extremely egotistical or even blasphemy to claim that I am god. But from my point of view just the opposite is true. If a person believes that they can exist as a completely independent and separate entity from god, then they are the ones who are being extremely egotistical in my mind.
God can’t send you to hell because you are part of god. God can’t abandon you because you are god. It’s the ultimately love. It’s as unconditional as it love can be. You can’t exist without god. You are god.
This is why I hate religions. They teach people the believe that they are somehow separate egotistical beings who can actually exist external to god. That’s so sick.
Just as your physical body is made from the star-stuff of this universe, so is your spirit borrowed from the spirit-stuff of the universe. You don’t exist alone. How could you? Where would you have come from if not from the universe? Its’ the essence of who you are. It’s the core of your being, and we are all it. We are all one. There are no separate egos. That a just figment of superstitious imagination.
But then again I guess that depends on what you think of when you think of “God”.
If you think of God as a Santa Claus in the sky who knows who’s been naughty and nice and who will delve out rewards or punishments accordingly, then NO, we are not that “God”.
I don’t think of God as being an egotistical godhead in it’s own right. God is the spirit of the universe and we are all it. There is no egotistical judgmental Santa Claus in the sky who will pass judgment on each and every individual to decide their eternal fate.
Our fate will be decided by our own actions. No judgment necessary. Just like a boat leaves a wake in the water we leave a wake in the spiritual sea of the universe. When we reincarnate we must ride out the wake that we have made. No judgment necessary. And we are all eternal. No heaven and no hell. Just eternal life.
This is how I believe. If you don’t find it palatable don’t believe it.
I personally find it much more loving than to believe that we are under the thumb of a self-proclaimed jealous and egotistical Santa Claus. To each their own.
I believe in nature...and, there are many forms.. All connected, and like a cosmic networ...with infinite tapestry... energy never stops... it changes, but still goes.
I guess I really don't believe in a "god" either. All depends on how we define the word.
I do believe that universe has a spiritual nature. And this is what I call "god".
But I must confess that I don’t like the word ‘god’ because it conjures up ideas of the egotistical gods of religions. I absolutely loath those pictures of an egotistical judgmental god. Seems more like a demon than a god to me.
