Something that I hear often here, in CS, and the world out there, is distances...miles, and how difficult it is, for some.
I want to share a story with you...
The other afternoon, I was chatting on Skype, with a galfriend,on the otherside of the world, in her morning, and she had her cam on.
We yakked as gals do, shared stories, insights, laughter, and periods of comfortable silence.
Just as if we were across the kitchen table from each other, sharing tea, and it felt the same, and was as intimate, as if she was.
Her daughter had a friend over, and the girls were playing with their dolls...
My daughter was on my lap, listening to the women stories, and every now and again, contributing her story.
My galfriend took her laptop into the sitting room, and placed it where my daughter could see her daughter, and friend playing.
The girls, all three, played dolls, for a while. All together, and with each other.
Two were in the Northern hemispere, and one was in the Southern hemispere, did they care? No. Was it real for them? Absolutely. Were they concerned about tricks, and lies? No.
They were doing what kids do best, playing, and trusting each other. Honest, and innocent.
I think we misjudge what miles is..
We are not really separate..we just think we are, and it took three little girls to remind me.
My dear lady vader i always enjoy ur wisdom. In these days as the technology has developed the concept of miles has changed amazingly. The feelings that united us as friends travel faster than the light, they travel at thought speed that is why we feel like we were in the same room.
Thanks y'all. I've been letting a distance thing get to me. Yet, I feel very close when I talk to people from all over the world. I will try to keep your words in mind.
Webcam! I've procrastinated buying one because I just didn't really feel the need for one. Butt....I'm having one sent to me for free from Verizon for switching over to their high speed internet...yeehaaa!
I had a skype call from Pete, and he had his cam on as well...
My kids, the two younger ones, were piled around the computer, chatting to him, my youngest even made him a cup of tea.
My eldest daughter rang on the house phone, so I put her on speaker phone...
There were five people in the room, the morning of my birthday, even though one was 300 miles away, and one was 10,000 miles away, all talking over the top of each other, laughing, making fun of each other...being a family.
We separate ourselves, we are all a family...
We were not separated by anything...we were all together.

The worst distance I could never stand was the distance of hearts, when I was living in the same house with the stranger who used to be my best friend.
Hearts can touch, over hundreds and thousands of miles.
