It is Hard to Quit, but i'm on Zyban and its Helping alot, Thank you Both for the Support, and I support you too, let keep an update going on the Progress
I to have quit smoking. For me it is also health reasons. I am on Zyban also, and I started on March 11. Chose March 17th as my quit date, didn't quite make it. So yesterday smoked my last pkg of cigarettes at 12 noon. Found morning coffee very hard without the cigaretts. Trying not to think of having another cigarette. Sometimes need a little support.
My advice to you...take one day at a time...and count each day as a blessing that you managed to get through without a cigarette!! Tons of luck to you!
I didn't use Zyban the last time I quit, but I did on my attempt before that and it didn't curb the cravings for me, but cigarettes tasted horrible which helped me to cut down. My doctor is of the opinion that you have to stay on it for 6 months to really properly assess whether it worked for you. At the time that I tried it, the thinking was only 3 months...some food for thought!
I found that I didn't gain any weight when I tried to quit with Zyban, but gained 10 lbs when going freestyle in December. That weight has come off now though, so it was just a temporary gain.
And that's my experience in a nutshell. I didn't last though...so today it's a new day and we're going smoke free again!
Support that is very helpful is also available online. If you'd like the website info, just drop me an email!
well here it is day 6 and have had no cigarettes in six days. I thought I was doing okay until my sister put me in a down mood. Not good enough she said for some one who has smoked for 45 yrs. Wait and see where you at in 6 months. I am doing one day at a time. The cravings come and go, today they aren't to bad. Does zyban make you depressed. I have noticed that I have had a couple of days of depression, something I have never had before. Being a diabetic for 11 years and having hight blood pressure for over 30 years, it is time for me to do something about it. I have already been told by my doctors if i don't quit smoking i will be on oxygen. So why does family have to make you feel you won't succeed. I am not going to give up.: blues:
Yay for you!! This time is all about you, so forget all else and focus on you and resisting the urge...that's amazing that you've made it 6 days...way to go!!!
Zyban is an anti-depressant and shouldn't make you depressed unless you're having an adverse reaction. Maybe you should call your pharmacist and see if that's a side-effect for some people.
But the withdrawal symptoms may be causing some of your mood swings....so chin up and keep going girlfriend!! You're doing awesome!! Eventually the mood swings will ease up!! Took me two weeks the last time I quit!
Thanks Tapestry, you made my day. I am don't have these depressed days that often, this is the only 2nd one since I started on the March 11th. I am trying to do one day at a time and I am determined to be smoke free all together. There is a old saying, YOu can pick your friends but you can't pick your family. Thanks again for your support. Sharon
Ive been smoking since I was 14 and I'm 19 now. I can honestly say that I ain't proud of it but I tried qutting and mae it two days but that went down the crap tubes. Now I quit 40 times a day... in between smokes. I smoke to packs a day of players filter king size and it teally sucks
I tried to quit once too was on Zyban and it helped really good! On the first couple of days when you take it you don't feel much of a difference. But slowly you will feel that the cigarettes don't taste good anymore. When you are a few days in you'll find yourself smoking less cause Zyban somehow makes you immune to the cravings. The more you use the drug the less you smoke and after 2 weeks i smoked my last cigarette! I made one fatal mistake though! Since i hate drugs of any kind i stopped using Zyban as soon as i quit smoking. Which wasn't the problem but my husband was! He didn't quit! And if someone constantly is in your face with cigarette smoke and the smell of it then eventually you are going to cave! So i did. I was smoke free for 2 weeks and started again! It is not Zybans fault that i didn't succeed it was my own fault! Zyban really works and it works great! I have tried that gum stuff and it just makes ya sick to your stomach the patch works as well as a kids tattoo the kind you put on with water. Zyban works. If you are sure you want to quit and give it an honest try then try those pills. You can only get them through your doctor and he will monitor you. Good luck to all who are trying to quit or have already quit. Keep it up!
I did a project on smoking and quitting in college....Lots of research and studied several people. The key to quitting is replacing the behaviour (act of smoking) with something else. Some things that worked for some people included candies, toothpics etc.
Of course meds helped in the process with cravings etc...but again the key is replacing the behaviour with someone else that is enjoyable for long term quitting.
Some can just quit cold turkey, but many need help.
Hey Dallas How are you doing with the smoking? I smoked my last cigarette on March 18th, and I am now on day 25 of being smoke free. The Zyban has really helped out a lot. I am finding right now if I am under a lot of stress, I crave a cigarette, but have not given in yet. It is not easy when you have smoked for 45 years. BUt I hope to succeed at this. LIving by myself helps out also, nobody in the house to bother me with their smoke, or tempt me to start smoking again. Good Luck to all who are trying to quit. Do one day at a time.
I am now 3 months and 3 days Smoke Free and I am feeling great. I have been off Zyban for 1 month and Now its all Willpower. I had to go for Lung Surgery on June 6th 2007 to correct some problems. I started smoking when I was 13 and its the biggest mistake I have done. Lucky for me I don't have Cancer. I will never touch an other Cigarette again. Infact, even the smell of Cigarette Smoke Stinks now and is not appealing.
