exit a cruise ship to go on a nature hike in alaska the tour guide tells the hikers that the area is heavily in habited by bears...he suggests that before they begin that each stop by the gift shop to buy where bells and pepper spray could be purchased...he went on to explain that the hikers should remain in groups...clanging their bells as a warning to the bears that they were coming so as not to startle the bears...and if they were to have a close encounter with a bear that they could sometimes be backed off with pepper spray....he went on to explain that there were both black bears and grizzly bears in the area...and that they could tell what kind of bears might be in the area by inspecting the dung often found along the trail...the way to tell the difference he went on to say was that blackbear dung normally contained things like berry seeds and occasionally squirrel or rabbit fur...where as grizzly dung contained bells and smells like pepper spray.
