I'm not opposed to legal immigration....that is how this country started.....BUT I do have a HUGE PROBLEM with those that come to this country and can't speak well enough to be understood....this country also chose english to be the official language.

I went to Burger King twice in 2 weeks....the guy (hispanic) got my order wrong both times because he couldn't understand me, as I couldn't understand him. I went in and flat out told him that I'm sure he is a very nice man, but we are in America....no Mexico. He needs to learn to speak MY language, as I was born here and that is the language of this country. Come to find out....he was hired recently AND as a manager!!

My pharmacist is from India and although she has an accent, she speaks beautiful English....I have no problems with her....I actually like her very much!!

I am not a prejudice person, but dammit, if I can't understand the person I'm speaking to, they certainly can't understand me.....this communication barrier is a real problem for me.

I think they should all have to take English classes and prove they can speak well enough to be understood before ever being allowed to get citizenship here!

agree totally chele..it does get aggravating trying to maneuver around the languages...
I had a sales appointment 2 weeks ago...chinese restaurant..neither parent spoke english
so I had to talk with their 8 yr old daughter and she was trying to tell them what I as
talking about...made no snese for me to even be there...
also annoying that everything on the phone is "press 1" for english....should be a requirement
to be here to know rudimentary english first...

Exactly....I shouldn't have to push a number to speak to someone in English.....I should not have to turn a product package around to find the English description.

No child should have to interpret for their parents.....as far as I'm concerned....the only language there should be interpreters for in America are for the deaf....they have no choice. Even they can write English and are also required to take English courses.....they can't even hear and most can't speak well enough to be understood!
