I'm kind of funny that way. I could talk to someone for two minutes and like them enough to consider them a friend. However a good friend is from the specialty store. Not easy to find or even describe. It could take months before I realized that you were a 'good' friend because of an incident that caused one or both of us to do something special for the other. If the incident never occurred, we might not have realized. Ha, I'm getting muddled with my thoughts so I'll quit now.confused dunno dunno

I think there's a big difference between a good friend and just a friend. I am blessed with having more than a few people that I call good friends. All have been friends for more than 15 years, but our friendships have been solidified into a deeper one once we have been through a life crisis/major event together. Whether that be a marriage, break-up, divorce, parenting problems or the death of a loved one, or even childbirth ... something has happened to make it an extra special bond.

I don't think it's a matter of time as much as it is reaching the point where you would always be there for them and knowing that you can call any time of day or night and know that they'll be over in 15 minutes in PJs and carrying 2 timmies.

In one particular case, the bond was created the first time we had dinner together one on one, another was over lunch and he still flies here once a year to visit with me. The others took months or years to develop into what they are.

It's about being non-judgmental toward the other, not competing in any aspect, and the final critical quality is honesty. One has to know someone long enough to put those to the test before 'knowing' that it's a good friendship. That's the serious side of it, but then there's the ability to have fun together...when serious stuff isn't going on, we leave each other with sore cheeks from laughing so hard! It's about balance!

And that's my two cents worth!cheers
