It was really nice out yesterday..in the evening i went for a walk along the lake, where i reside..Normally i admire the lake and nature but this walk was different. I took notice of all the development, huge houses, boats, big cars etc. So i got thinking about this and how its defines us.

so how what defines you? or how would you define yourself?
Is it your car?
Is it your home?
Is it your partner?
is is your job?

Also, how do you think other people see you?

Not that i really care what others think of me...but i am amazed at how society defines you by things you have.

I know what your saying. Its sad to think of how society judges people one what they have, or how much money they spend.

Well, people know me because I am ALWAYS wearing black. Its all I wear. I dont know why - Im just not into the reds and blues - and you'd NEVER catch me in a Hawiian T-shirt!

That's the society we live in. Sad the way things have gone in some ways.

I think my job and my kids.

I love to work with my hands, I enjoy seeing the smile and satisfaction on a clients face. God that sounded bad LOL. I love to create......

My kids, they're well mannered, respectful, thoughtful and caring. I see alot of myself in my children and so do others I've been told. Funny too though they're way better behaved than what I was as a child.

I believe that most people I know see me as a thoughtfull and caring man that loves his family.

People that don't know me, well who knows.

You are correct in that you don't csre what others think of you.
Materials things never define me....a house, boat, car are things thay you can do without owning. How I treat others, is what matters most.

Hey cupid,
thats is interesting...only black..is this your fav colour? you say you dont know why but you must wear only black for some reason.

i am the complete opposite with clothing. i wear red, orange and all kinds of colours. As well all types of clothing from athletic, to casual to prep. And i love hawaiian shirts. Why..well i change my clothing depending on my mood or wear i am going. If its the beach or a really nice day i pull out the hawaiian shirt...if its golf...a golf shirt...if its a date or a special evening out of some sort...i dress trendy...collared type shirt kinda thing. I think a persons taste in clothing does say something about them..... about weather the person takes pride in their appearance.

Hey Kenai,
ya i agree with you. money and possessions mean little to me.
The things you own in my opinion are meaningless.

If i had to describe me, i would say it is a simple life that i am seeking. While not totally there, its an ongoing process that my family/friends see me working on.
Simplicity to me is the less i own, the more content i am becoming. Trying not to be focused on money/working all the time etc equals less stress...yadda yadda

It is a privilege to raise children.

That is great that your kids are productive caring members of society.

i dont know either what others think of me...But those who know me or know me a little would say i am a family man that loves his family as well.

Kudos to you Jimwave

What I own or don't own does not define me.
How I dress or look does not define me.
What I do,say and believe does.
How I act towards others does, depending on the reasons.
How I treat others does.
But no matter what, I'm just me,no more,no
less.

As the saying goes 'I'd rather be hated for what I am ,then loved for what I'm not.'

It's not what you leave when your gone, it's how you lived your life.

Don't know who coined that phrase, but think it fits.

My height defines me, I have so little of it, I'm not quite 5', but I really don't care, I've lived with it most of my life. I get joked about it all the time, but, I do know who my friends are and that is all that matters.

Sure I'd luv to win the lottery, but, it won't change me. Money is so immaterial to me, and if I did win, I would share my wealth.innocent

This are wise words.

I think it is what we do in this world that is the difference. Volunteering, Giving to the poor, helping the homeless etc etc...those are the true moments that define us.

nice question pinto....

what defines me.....

well if people look at my car - I would hate to hear what they would say...possession wise - please don't define me that way.

I hope I am defined by who I am - I have heard tell that I am a very good person, nice, caring, friendly, open and honest. If this is the impression I am leaving then I am alright with it.
I think my children also define me - they are wise and wonderful - evey one - being a single parent I can honestly say I have done well....they all have heart.

Hey Pucks... I have to say this is the most thought provoking thread I've seen on here yet. I've looked at it since you posted it and have wanted to respond but, can't settle on anything that would be "sufficient". mumbling

Define me is... who I am. Not what I do or what I say or how I behave or what I have or what I think or what I feel... it is, who I am. Maybe I could get esoteric and freak everyone out by saying I'm a spiritual being having a human experience? Oh, crap... was that my outside voice? doh

I'm still discovering me. The what I do or what I say or how I behave or what I have or what I think or what I feel are expressions of who I am... so are they expressions of the definition of me? confused

Sorry to answer a question with a question... I do really need to go to bed. yawn
