First of all I am 61 years old...female... My grandson showed me this site the other day...One thing he kept stressing is that I MUST post a photo. I just don't understand that...A photo is a just less a nano second in ones life. It does not show the real person. The twinkle in the eye, the heart and soul of the personmoping I quite honestly feel that the value of everyone is not in how they look but who they are...That is what I am interested in

That is all fine and good..however it is human nature to need to see the person you are talking with. The right person will see all those things.

On a side note, in some cases you can be standing in front of someone and never see the *real person* ....

You would be amazed at what you can tell about some people from a photograph. As it goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words."

Here's a cinerio. You're chatting it up with the sweetest man you have never met. He's in his late 50's, well traveled, a widower, a father of 3, and grandfather of 5. He's the kind of guy that'll make you jump out of bed in the morning, right and read to love every day for rest of your life. Oh. Nope. Wait. He's a pimple faced, 15 year old high school kid with interenet access and no friends. Think his mom will drive ya'll to the movies?

You're a lovely 61 year old grandmother. Right? Or maybe you're an over weight teen aged girl with no boyfriend, low self-esteem, and a thing for older men. The longer you're on-line, the more you will see my points in action.

I cannot see what harm can come from posting a photo unless you don't want your spouse to find out you are active on a singles site.

Thank you, Kerbear.

No, Don. No real harm. But even if you're not married/ dating and cheating, some folks are a little embarrassed about having friends or passers-by recognize them from an interenet dating ad. (Even if it was only seen because the other person was in there looking too.)

My husband of 22 years died in 2005...Since then I have hid in the house greaving the loss...I decided just this week to put my toe into the water and try to contact other people...In three short days I have learned that to be on this site one must distrust everyone and assume the worst.....How hard would it be to just put anyones picture on site and still be the pimpled faced girl or even a gangly boy cripes

It done everyday. About the only thing you can do is use a little common sense, your best judgement, and hope for the best. I wish I had a more profound answer, but there really isn't one to be had. In that respect, it's much like the old bar scene we all know and hate, just quieter and open 24/7/365.

if you don't feel comfortable posting a photo then don't post one. Its not that big a deal. Lots of people in these forums don't have a picture but they still participate. be who you are and screw the rest if they dont like it.
