Does anyone feel like I do about this? When you are messaging or chatting with someone online, do you also take other calls at the same time?
I find it disturbing to be talking with someone and it takes forty seconds for that person to respond to a remark and then you get 'yes' or 'k' and nothing for another minute. It's obvious that they are chatting with someone else at the same time.

Do you do that? Don't you find it disrespectful? If I'm chatting with you, it's just you. If someone else comes on trying to talk to me, I ignore them for now and get back to them later unless it's my kids. Even then I would let you know that my son wants to talk to me and I'll get back to you soon.

Agree or disagree, I'm trying to understand this means of communication.

Sorry Murray - I am guilty of this. MSN allows you to connect with multiple people at the same time - for me it allows me to talk with you or whomever and clean my house or study or do what I have to do.
If I was to glue my butt to my computer chair nothing would get done.
If you were talking on the phone, not every answer is a sentence but it is immediate.

Spot on Capt! I find it very disrespectful. In fact, for me it's right up there with people who use their cordless/cell phones in the bathroom. I block everyone and chat with them one at a time because I'm interested in having a conversation with them. IM is not a popularity contest. Those who want to chat to multiples can count me out. Ditto for those who say "I have another call coming in can you hold on". Sorry but no, I have this thing called a life that I would like to get back to.

I do chat alot with people online and find it better to chat with one person at a time as I like to give that person my full attention. I have tried to chat with several people at once and found it to get a little confusing and it is disrespectful to keep the other person waiting on your answer and have to wait for them to answer you especially if they take 15 minutes to answer back!

Yea, I feel the same way Murray. It kinda takes the "I" outa "IM" What's the point. Either let em know, or let em go.

And another thing that burns my wagon lol, is some people with call waiting that attempt to have half a conversation with you, back and forth, back and forth, beep hang on, beep hang on.

roll eyes

Popularity contest has already been mentioned.

Yeah but at the same time, we shouldn't always jump to conclusions. Sometimes the computer is slow and mine will sometimes freeze up and I have to reboot and see if the person is still there. I don't mind when I'm chatting with someone and they say BRB I need to pee, or get a coffee or something like that. There sometimes is a reason but it can get annoying if it's obvious.

I agree.Only problem is that even if u put urself as busy or away when talking with someone, others will still interrupt and u have to take the time to tell them ur busy .

I have had the double message thing happen.. I let the people know and and end one of the conversations...if I do not want to be distrubed I put away and if they intrupt I ignore them...it does say away right...would love to say I do this not to be rude but honestly it is mostly because I am not that good at multitasking and am liable to make a very inappropriate comment to my brother or something...lolrolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing
