all down the years i did listen to others but they just knocked me down or used me to their benifit. I learnt the hard way to listen to myself, as i learnt what was right from wrong. So i taught my children, never to treat anyone they way they wouldnt like anyone to treat them and so far so good its working well.

In my opinion:
Political leaders…judging by their actions, I HOPE they’re not the smartest people on earth or we’re all in serious trouble.
Religious leaders…not far behind, hopefully some of them are led by a higher power. Often greed intervenes.
Hell, I’m a philosopher; I'm not a guru because I don’t think I have followers nor am I out to find them. If one claims to have ALL the answers, they’re not in it for the hunt anymore. Look for the story of the empty cup.
Personal counselors or psychiatrists, somewhat akin to philosophers and gurus, but with letters behind their name. Anyone who’s completely figured the human brain out is suffering from a God complex.
Wise old people are usually just stubborn kids with more experience… and a lot of fun…that’s why most of my friends are over 40.
Family and friends… if picked wisely…
Inner self… must also be watched carefully. Mine has a wicked sense of humor and likes to pull practical jokes on me all the time.
I wouldn’t throw a net of generalities out just yet. Some of my best friends are my polar opposites.
