Here in Manchester....its been reported that in the last MONTH alone...there have been 23 shootings i and around Manchester.
Some are just boys aged 13 and 14, and this problem is getting worse. Some were gang members tryin to get out of the game, and become family men...only to be gunned down in the street... Others were innocents, who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Way back...i had an acquaintance who had mental health problems because of his constant drug misuse... One afternoon me and my buddy Ryan called round to this guys flat to pick something up he had asked us to come and collect. When we arrived...Al (the guy) seemed all agitated and anxious about something, so we decided to pick up what we came for and leave..as he had a reputation as being a bit of a loose cannon. On entering the flat....Al invited us into the living room....as we walked in he locked the door behind us... As we heard the click of the bolt..we turned around, only for Al to pull out a pistol from his inside jacket pocket....and yelled for us to sit down on the bed stay there..... Panicked.....with a gun pointed at us..(or at least we thought it was real at the time)...we sat on the bed...just waiting for this geezer to blow......
Turns out he was just "experimenting" with the replica he had bought in a pawn shop a couple of days previous...to see if whoever this gun was pointed at, could actually be mistaken for a real gun..... My point is......if its this easy enough for a guy like Al to buy a gun, even a replica...in the mental state he was in...then how easy would it be for a kid.....to buy the real thing with no questions asked????
I know this kind of thing is happening all over the world, and to some people this is a part of daily life...dodging a bullet.....not moving out of their home at night.....living like a prisoner in their own home.....
Do you think that the government are doing all they can to try and tackle this issue...or are they just letting them do each other in and have done with them???....
Ive got a freind Dave who owns a bus with a bar on and his business/work is taking people round the various nightclubs in Manchester and then home - he tells me he often hears gunshot sounds and there are many incidents which dont even make it into the papers now - its all gone a bit crazy from the days i used to go out in Manchester
If these things are so everday that they dont even make it onto the news anymore then - no, I dont think the government are doing enough
I know.....theres plenty we dont hear about Trish. They have gun amnesties every now and again...but what do they think these people who carry guns daily are gonna do? Hand them in? I dont think so.
Manchester is one of the safest places to go out you know? Its because of all the CCTV in the area.. Its a fact....its safer to go around Manchester, than it is to drink locally... But CCTV camera isnt gonna bother somebody in a balaclava is it??.
I agree hunny..... It just feels like every other day..theres somebody the victim of some kind of assault or another.....
Youre right,....the happy slapping culture is something thats getting out of control..... The stabbings.......one of my friends....god rest his soul...was stabbed 18 times in the upper body and back in a row over a cigarette lighter.....died on arrival at the hospital.....the guy who did it..got 5 years....and only served 2.......but when released.....he was never allowed to set foot back in the area again......for his own safety...... Its pathetic.....2 years for something as vicious as that...the judge must have needed his wig feeling.....
don't talk to me about knife crime! someone very close to me was murdered a few years ago...the police know who did it, but won't arrest some of them because evidence was mysteriously "lost" (funnily enough these people are also known to be police informers). two of the others who were involved committed suicide when they were arrested and got the easy way out, and there are 2 more who are in prison awaiting trial - i just hope they make a bloody good example of them and lock them up and throw away the key
ouch. its quite common here for "punishment beatings" to take place using baseball bats. but these bats are studded with nails and wrapped in barb wire or razor wire!
I know, its a fools errand isnt it - the amnesties probably only bring up stuff like grandads world war two army issue whatever - these kids are playing with allsorts.
I actually used to do some shooting on a range near Denton, (made some good holsters too incidentally) they all had to be licensed and the guns kept in safes etc - there were some real classic pieces of equipment i saw, then they all had to get rid of them - at least when they had to be licensed there was some kind of control but now, its all just underworld stuff and very scarry.
Of course there always was the illegal side but I dont know if its escalated since they cracked down on the laws or not - I do know that now, there is no voice of reason in the arena its a very much us and them situation.
There is also the theory that they changed the laws to disarm the people.
Laws are there to be broken in these guys eyes Trish....these hoods dont have respect for the police or the law......im not surprised though......the softly softly approach.....fear of upsetting the perp....or better yet..getting sued for breach of human rights....its a joke...maybe if they were stamped down on a bit harder...and made to pay for their deeds...rather than just lettin em live the life of riley behind bars.....maybe they might regret their actions...
Yep.....and also if somebody with a weapon is pushed into a corner...especially the ones so young....theyre gonna lash out arent they? Whether they intended to use it or not???...Anybody who carries a weapon....must have the intention of using it...
Dave at the moment here in Dublin gun crime is big. Its all gangs killing each other or innocents who they deem as getting in the way. In Limerick a bouncer who stopped drug dealers going into a night club to deal was shot dead, later outside his house. Last week a guy who was in a wheelchair was going to court to give evidence against two who shot him and put him in the wheelchair. He would'nt take the stand and the two guys got of scot free. A lot of gangs with guns will get away with a lot because of the power they and their guns have.
Well for one the government at least in Canada is concentrating more on the banning of handguns rather than the real problem, which is the smuggling of illegal handguns.
It's not law abiding citizens that are committing crimes, when you can go to any street corner and buy a handgun, for just about any price, that's where the problem lyes.
They can ban all they want, it won't stop the masses of illegal weapons from being smuggled and sold to crack pots that want to kill!!!!!!!!!
