a back and forth
of snap and snarl
all knitted up
with lightening
stark bright against the eye;
tropical depression
sits heavy on the day
a sighing whining mass
of soggy air that brings
post nasal drip
to an artform
oozing down the sky
all muffled up in grey
the colour of the moment
muted by the growing dark;
the firecracker pop and
sparkle of the storm
puts tingles into phone lines
makes lights flicker
power on now off now on
a shuttlecock suspended
in the strobe that blinkers
sight for minutes at a stretch
while rain hisses in the distance
the promise of the rainbow
implicit in the threat
of stormy times ahead.
