I gave up a full ride scholarship to Western Michigan University (for tennis believe it or not!) when I found out my Mom was diagnosed with bone cancer. She was in a hospital bed in our family room, and I took care of her full time for the next 5 years. I took her to all her chemo treatments, emptied and washed out bed pans, put medicine on bed soars, cleaned, cooked, and did all the grocery shopping. Six months before she passed away the cancer spread to her brain. That was the hardest part for me because I had to watch her personality slip away. I don't regret putting my life plans on hold, and I would do it again in a second! The time I got to spend with her was priceless, and she was the most amazing woman I've ever met, and the best friend I will ever have. I didn't do it to make myself feel better. I just did it because I loved her!
I have taken chernobyl kids for years when my kids were younger. It was the most fulfilling experience for both myself and my kids. It was amazing to see these sick kids face light up when they saw the sea for the first time. I would love to meet those kids now as they are young adults. I would have kept everyone of them if i could....
I adopted three children and watched them grow into wonderful loving adults. Each of them are like me in the fact they will open their home to others and always make room for one more at the table.
Ones like you are so hard to find.Willing to sacrifice for someone they love. You have traits in you, that alot would be lucky to have.May God bless you and keep you safe.
Wonderful story and thank you for sharing it...There are so many fantastic people on CS and you are at the top of the list. I am sure you did your Mother proud and she is still wearing a smile knowing what a great son she had..
