For the Windows folks, do your WindowsUpdates, have virus protection (pick a product, any product), buy a firewall (XP comes with one as do most antivirus software these days), and avoid downloading /installing "free fun stuff". Your PC will live a long and happy life.
Most hackers are simply curious people who have little intent of causing trouble. I know several that will simply attach to your printer and print off directions on how to secure your network.

I stick firmly by what I said. His OS is safe. I've been around IT a long time and I don't care how many different scenarios some idiot dreams up about windows being "owned." It won't happen to whoever started this thread. Your OS is safe. Sure, run updates, that's great. But nobody is out there watching your computer I can guarantee you that. Don't let idiots scare you.
