I took some peoples advice from CS after a scare with chest pains and have started quiting smoking. I have tried before and used the patch, gum and Zyban along with trying cold turkey and have always failed. I never made it through a day of no smoking before. This time I was givena suggestion to try a new drug called Chantix. This stuff is amazing!!! The directions say to smoke if you want to for the first week. Well, I've been on it for 4days now and have not wanted a cigarette for the past two. In fact the second day I was on it my cigarettes were starting to taste really bad and the smell was making me feel ill. I think you still need a desire to quit for the stuff to work, but man does it work.banana

So how long should I go until I can say I'm a none smoker in my profile?

I've tried a fe times, but not really put my heart and soul into it.
Went cold turkey, just quit, didn't take any advice, patches gum, etc etc.
Longest I quit for was a year. I really should try again.

Jstreet..

Oo Ive read about Chantix before.. I'd forgotten about that.

How did you get on with Zyban?.. I think its stopped being given in the Uk (or pretty much).. there were so many down sides to taking it. (to do with depression) My friend took it to stop smoking and went from (always) being happy and jolly to virtually suicidal blues

Also.. I cant remember it exactly (so don't quote me lol) but I remember reading a UK news article a year or so ago where a coroner had put something on someone death cert to do with Zyban.. being a CAUSE. Because of the huuuuge depression the *patient* had suffered from it.

I actually was put on Welbutrin a while back for depression. Welbutrin is the same drug as Zyban. It didn't do anything for my depression or my smoking.

I just wanted to say I take care of an elder lady and her daughter quit smoking. This is her forth week on Chantix. It's an amazing drug! She hates the smell of cigarette smoke and since her husband smokes she can't stand to be around him! The other thing I wanted to mention I had to take the lady i take care of to the doctors office and they were talking to her daughter about the Drug and that there whole office staff is on the drug and it has helped all of them. Like I said it's amazing! Keep taking it! and Good Luck! If you know anyone who wants to quit recommend it to them they'll love you for life!banana peace
