So what does everyone think about Halloween!

I had kids for the first time knock on my door trick or treating last night! And they weren't in costume dunno so when I challenged them tongue in cheek...the quick thinking youngsters (boys) took their t-shirts off and wrapped them towel head style on their skulls and went now we are in costume rolling on the floor laughing

I played along with it and gave them some "treats" First lot on their own.... no grown ups.... second lot with a parent.

Actually came across an article that said Halloween started in the Celtic times in Ireland/England 2000 or so years ago! Surprisingly when I thought it originated in America.

Is harmless fun is how I see it but I do get concerned about kids going on their own. Sure when I was a kid (not that long ago no smart comments laugh ), we would go around and sell raffle tickets, even ask if any odd jobs etc by ourselves or with a friend but nowadays sadly kids just can't be kids anymore for fear of safety.

Anyway any thoughts on it all!

I think Trick or Treating is fine, as long as your local to your home. People may think that its dangerous because of p*dophile, but to be brutaly honest, how many could there be? They are spread out few and far between. Not in every 3rd house.

As for the Pagan excuse, so is EASTER jaw drop derived from Eshter the pagan goddess of the new moon. So there is the religeous side shot down.

Now the Americanism side of Halloween, yes the yanks celebrate it as their own holiday. Why cant we? think about that when you sit at home watching American Idol, or the Australian Rip off, Big Brother, or the Australian Rip off, So you think you can dance, or the Australian Rip off, Who wants to be a millionare.........should I continue????

Let the kids have a holiday where they can have fun. Let them be kids. Let them do things we used to do as kids. The world, and people havent changed since we were little. The information about all the bad things is just more readily available.

Footsies I respect what you say and feel but I believe especially not having children of your own you don't relate to anything that is child-oriented - there is nothing wrong with some fun - the world is so full of doom and gloom at times - and as for being an American thing who cares - we all live on the one planet and sure we are all individuals but I really don't care about origins too much - I mean I am a heinz variety mixed up with bits of many cultures/nationalities.

Just my thoughts and each to their own but boy am I glad I am not some kid that knocked on your door in Melbourne Halloween night as probably get hosed on rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

AH...the old...."you don't have children so you don't know what it's like" chestnut. That is rather obvious. I could counter with "you have children so you don't know what it's like NOT having children", but i won't.

You should care about the spread of American 'culture' throughout the world. Then you might understand why people attack them. You might understand about the cheapening and erosion of values, to which i expect you yourself have found yourself commenting on, particularly in regards to the behaviour of children (which, of course, i know nothing about, i have no children, and i assume i have no eyes or ears to observe other people's children).

Anyway, when it comes to cannibalism, i have cooked and eaten people of all ages and sizes, not just children. It just happens that they fit into the oven better.

Hey you were the one to point out initially you don't have children rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing Man you are a touchy touchy one aren't you lol

And yes I do know what it's like to NOT have children been there! laugh

Having or not having children doesn't make one a better person. You can be a great uncle, friend etc to children - just seems in your case they are like "blow flies" in your world and you have very little connection or empathy uh oh hehe And hey that's fine different strokes for different folks. Lighten up footsie this is just a forum to share - I did say I respect your views but hey if you wanna go into defensive and turn it back on me go for it - just a waste of energy in my eyes.
