In the course of different threads, the topic of the friction betwen 'modern' and 'tribal' cultures has come up many times. Throughout history more advanced and technologically superor cultures have dominated the more primitive tribal societies.

In our global world we see much strife caused when tribal cultures are thrown into conflict, either against each other or modern culture.
The question is " can Tribal Cultures peacefully co-exist in a modern world?"

thumbs up Interesting topic

Yes !!!

The problem ith us is that WE dont let anybody or anythin glive in peace. We seem to live with a sense of belonging about the planet. Every person actually species has just as much right to be here as we would if we were in the dinousar era.

Tribal Cultures usually exist amongst the group of people belonging to the tribe. Their own ways of dealing with live. So i believe they can co-exist peacefully with the modern world .. only if we stop bothering them.

Tribal cultures have never been able to peacefully co-exist, that's the whole point of there being different tribes, to keep them separate.

I don't see how we can leave them be, no culture can be isolated anymore, and if so would it be right to enforce isolation/ The problem is that when we do introduce them to modern technology, we give them the vices first, then the tools of destruction.

Yes as long as each are left to their own devices and one is not trying to turn the other into something they are not!!!!!!!

That's always been the problem...the dominant culture expects all other cultures to behave and believe as they do...Hence the strife!!!!!!

Also an honesty and accountability for past attrocities...stop the lies...stop the cover-ups and stop the justification!!!!!!!!

thumbs up Exactly what i was trying to say .

They see life with a simpler vision. They live by the rule sof nature and their own customs.

Its not abou isolation. Its about choice. You dont know what you are missing when you are not aware. But if you see and you dont want it yet its called choice. So, if they like to liv ethw eay they do..its their right to be the way they like . Enforcing Globalisation isnt what we need.

riyablossom: thumbs up Interesting topic

Indeed it is, however ...well I'll just shut up on that subject grin

It's a question of respect IMHO ... So called "First world countries" seem to have a hard time keeping the air clean, never mind wild life or customs of native inhabitants. It also depends on how stubborn any particular culture is. Many have resisted, I find that admirable. Humans are naturally curios creatures so be it a lighter or a cell phone we wanna know how it works. Social works arise similar curiosity. I won't even mention religion.. Modern culture is like Venus Flytrap to tribal cultures. They are attracted by the glamor and mystery until it's to late. Some resist. It's the number of people with determination and guts to preserve their culture what determines fate of any given tribe.

History tells the tale....It wasn't curioisty it was and is still policies of forced assimlation...still trying to make other cultures...Natives etc into what they are not...They have their own culture...religion...respect for the earth etc...BUT it's not respected or recognized by the dominant culture cause the only one that is...is their own...So it's assimilation and now adaptation...which shouldn't mean that everything else has that is theirs should have to be lost...BUT yet it has been and is!!!!!!!

Like I've said. I won't even mention religion because it will open up a can of nasty worms. Most upsetting fact that it's done with a mask of good will. "Trow down your grandfathers bow! Here's a AK 47!"

laugh I think I've inadvertently said "Don't think about the cow".

Definition of a start is pretty loose in this case but I see your point.

I'll start another historically religious topic if you like.

one can hardly blame any of the sides on this topic. people are curious and people are dumb too. some people who had great cultural heritages that are admired by the so-called dominant cultures just caught on and gradually dumped their cultures for others they felt are more fashionable and although the tools where there to tip and excite them, the choice was theirs.
some have realized and are desperately trying to revive their cultures and are upsetting other aspects of everyday life in the process. some stood their ground and are good for it today. some were just curious and have properly blended in the way of having other cultures exist side by side with theirs, peacefully. christians did not fight a jihad to make africans accept the religion. no one was particularly robbed of his culture because even colonised territories still preserved their culture until the post-colonial times. it was always a matter of choice despite all the influence. cool

for native americans, it was forced because of the iminent co-habitation..... if i was going to spend the rest of my life with someone, of course i'd make sure we had something in comon, especially if i was the dominant one in the relationship .....lol...

Yes most western cutures...Thats the key...All cultures are not western and existed quite fine on their own prior to European contact...In fact... the Declaration ofg Independance was fashioned after the Haudenesaune Great Law of Peace...which is the oldest form of government in existence....So no people don't need to be told what to do...They need to know clearly what their repsonsibilities are within society...which is something the Six Nations or Haudensaune had down pat....Yet their traditional governments were removed and are no longer recognized by the Canadian or American governments...(some are not all) They were all replaced by governments of the dominant cultures choosing and of course never worked nor do they work today...BUT divide and conquer so I guess it worked for them!!!!!!!
