I have a friend who is pretty into this game, and it does sound very interesting...with tournaments all over the place..etc...

I was just wondering if anyone here plays this game...I was thinking of trying to take it up, but it seems quite complex, and I don't think that one could learn to play by just reading the "theory"....was hoping for a few tips from those who actually know the game..

Hmm....where's Allen when I need him...hehe

See! I knew it was a popular thing...I don't think it's a bad thing for kids....as they get older they seem to get very into it...like a club of sorts...they may be looked at as a bit nerdy....but it keeps them off the streets and out of trouble....plus they practice strategizing and using logical problem solving skills....I think it's a good thing...

Yeah...I hear ya...My friend really does discuss the game quite a bit (though I am quite happy to hear about it since I want to learn)..

Listen...I have to jump in the shower and jet off to an app't...but any help you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated..I'm also looking for an inexpensive starter deck...if anyone has one they're wanting to get rid of (for a reasonable CS price!)

Please leave messages here with tips and hints...experiences...etc....and if you have info on a deck send me an email, k? (I don't want to cross any CS rule boundaries or anything)

If you're REALLY patient and would be wiling to have a conversation with me about the game...I would be sincerely thankful...

Ciao for now!

Sam

My son plays...as do most of his friends...but it is very complicated...putting together your deck, etc..
They play for hours however...so must be addictive.

There's a place in Keene called the hide out where folks go to rollplay characters... they also do the gathering games.
I mean they get so into it, I think some just leave reality all together... I'd sit outside the shelter there at night and watch folks drive up, get stuff out of there cars... peer around all aparanoid like, and almost run to the place...Was odd.

My girlfriend sold this itty bitty deck of The Gathering cards on eBay for over 2 Grand.

Anything that has the possibility of getting that over the top scares me to death.

Just got the feeling of it being like the Dungeons and Dragons obsessors.

Nah....no actual GAME can do that to anyone...if someone takes any sort of game (role playing or otherwise) and uses it as the theme or excuse for doing something bad...they were bad to begin with...probably highly unstable emotionally and mentally....so effected by influence that reality checks out frequently...whether they are "game" players or not...

I don't buy into that...that's like saying that teens end up committing suicide or killing their girlfriends because that's what Eminem said was cool....no stable "healthy" person could possibly make it right by connecting the two...

In any case...I do see that it is more of a young person's game...but it seems there are more than a few adult players around here too...as for the running into buildings paranoid...with some of their cards being worth over $2000 EACH...I'd be a little paranoid walking around with 500 of them or so too! LoL

ooh!!! very complicated...sort of...but all you really need to know is on each card...you just have to use strategy to figure out how to USE those cards...and you build the deck yourself, generally, once you know what you are doing.

awesomely creative game...and yeah, can be addicting...

at one time, i had over four thousand cards...

Nice! Can you recommend what sort of deck I could start with? I understand that there are generalized starter decks which are moderately priced...I think that is what I am looking for.....right?
