I think everyone is selfish to a certain degree. We all have a percentage of the character of defects that are out there...It is a part of who we are. It also depends on the definition that your going by. Sometimes I think that I am not being selfish and someone will point out that I am. Or I will feel that someone else is being selfish and I am seeing it completely wrong. If it is pointed out to you that you have alot of selfish ways, then it is time to start looking at it and doing something different about it. Selfishness is not always a bad thing, it can be a good thing...it depends if it is used in a negative way or not. I am selfish when it comes to putting my recovery first. If I don't have that first then I don't have anything!

I agree with your first statements very much Jen. As far as guys being selfish I believes it's about the same. There are also just as many unselfish and too giving men out there too! People like that tend to get taken advantage of the most until they get burned a few times or more for it. Selfish people do not care, they are only takers as well as givers for their own benefits. If you have too much of a giving nature you are bait for opportunists, whether male or female, until we learn the hard way to be wiser. I also believe some selfish people can change too and learn the hard way that they have to change. oh well, just babbling, lol! Just my thoughts.

selfishness means different things for different people. i think it would be best if people said what the exact things that other's do that seems selfish to them. for example i consider selling one's broken down car to someone else selfish. i also consider people who don't move their carts out of the way in the supermarket selfish.

All good points made. Also there is that concept of people pleasing. I use to be bad with that. When I stopped certain others (not all) would say I was being selfish. It's finding that balance, and being true to yourself! By nature I am sure that I can be selfish, people pleasing, and a martyr at times. But I am not trying to be a hateful, spiteful person when I act this way.....(I hope) LOL
