I know how to smile
and just say goodbye.
I know how to love
and I know how to hate,
I know how it feels to
just be too late.
I know how to walk
and I know how to run,
I know how to crawl
which isn't much fun.
I know how to bend backwards
and plunge forward too,
I know how to make wishes
that may never come true.
I know all the trials
when sickness and death call,
I even know how it feels to fall.
to fall on my knees and
ask for God's grace,
and still sometimes land
flat on my face.
I know how to pick myself up
and wipe off the dust
and say "Dear Lord, in you I trust"
I know how to deny
and say I'm not good enough
to walk by your side
when times get rough.
Just like a child, no matter
how often I stumble
His hand is there
I feel so humble
I know how to hold
my eyes up to Jesus now
and say "I'm yours,
You show me how"
I know how it feels to hear Him say
"Be proud, my child and walk my way"
I'll show you and teach you through
my Holy Spirit,
Shh! Listen carefully,
that you might hear it."
