Or do they just inspire us to think "what if"?

Jules Vernes wrote "20,000 leagues under the sea" before the submarine was invented.
J.K Rowlings' Harry Potter invisibility cloak is similiar to something I am working on now.

Or do they just have the vision to see what is possible?

Of course -yes -some science fiction writers are definitely 'predictors' of the future! The question is was it only their imaginative writing or just an incredible intuition!? I bet both !And I tip hat to Jules Verne, whose'predictions' were :submarines, air ships and space travelyay Hope there will be some meet-together for CS members on the Moon -in the next Future!!!wink cheers

that's a good one.... for now I'll just say that if it can be imagined it can exist and it can happen whether we like it or not; whether we want it or not might be another matter altogether and if we're talking about if we want to let it exist that's a different subject altogether.

now... we could be talking about paralel universes here, so if we don't get to see it it might be happening in a different plane?

Interesting to note, that the first "Submarines" were tested as early as the 17th Century.

The more interesting Tidbit is the Type of Energy used to power Verne's "Nautilus" ,practically foreshadowing something we haven't mastered yet,NUCLEAR FUSION. thumbs up conversing wave

I am bending light in directions it normally does not go. Right now with glass. Thus instead of a reflection coming off of a mirror - no reflection occurs. :-) If you think about it - invisibility is not being able to see something, so if I bend the light around you so that I see what is behind you only, then you are invisible.

Nature already does it in a way - wild baby animals use camoflage so that you can not see them hiding. The light reflected off of their coats blend with their surroundings. If they do not move, you do not see them. Rubies bend light in all directions, the only "natural glass" that does not obey Snell's law of reflection. It occurs because small microscopic droplets of water are trapped in Ruby.
