OUTRAGEOUS: I have 2 girls. My oldest daughter has thick, abundant, curly hair. It was a nightmare to care for it. I had to do her hair every morningand I couldn't cut it short because it would fan out and made her look like a gazebo. The battles between me and Amanda's hair usually ended with a barrette on top of her head and the rest could do whatever... She also has very sensitive scalp and it hurt to have her hair brushed, detanglers notwithstanding...of course the teachers kept sending notes home, because her hair was everywhere.
My youngest daughter in the other hand, she has straight hair, not a curl to save her soul... very fine, abundant hair, and also a very sensitive scalp, but it is easier to manage her hair when is shorter...
I figure they have enough time to be vain about their hairs... it is hot and humid where we live, so it is easier and more comfortable for them to have shorter hair, not crew cuts but shoulder length.
Also, if your daughter is going to day-care, there is always the risk of unwelcome visitors to her hair... and before you roll your eyes, yes, it happens, even in the best schools.
And like blue eyed blonde said, she might take the killing desire from you, when she cuts her own hair... My oldest did it at 2 1/2, and again at 3, and the latest was at 5... she had gorgeous curls... and she calls me at the office and said: "you will never believe what I did, all by myself..." I could just hear the pride and the smile in her little voice... until I saw... and passed out.
Take it easy, brother... it won't be bad... she'll be cooler and trendy...
