i'm not really sure.. i think that there were more accidents reported with children being watched by minors or something .. i dont know if its like that all over texas but i know here it is
The Red Cross certifies kids starting at 11? 12? and they won't certify them if they don't pass the course... So I would say anyone who has passed the course, especially if I know them.
My older daughter was responsible enough to babysit at 11; my younger daughter will be 14 this summer and I don't think I'd trust her to babysit anyone, because of her impatience and tendency to boredom (major ADHD.) She loves playing with little kids, but not as the sole caretaker.
Here you can take the class to be certified at 12, but it definitely depends on the kid. Look into grades, extra curriculars, etc. I started by meeting people at church, thats a real good place to look.
