A person's economic condition has been known to affect his or her quality of life and access to health care, but a surprising new study finds that income level can also affect how fast a person ages biologically. According to research published in the journal Aging Cell, belonging to a low-income bracket is associated with the equivalent of a seven-year increase in biological age in comparison to the highest income brackets. Researchers at London's St. Thomas' Hospital used testing of DNA and cell damage to gauge "biological age" in more than 1,500 adults. The faster aging rate was found to hold constant even when other factors that may increase aging, such as obesity and smoking, were taken into account.

Somehow or other, I`m reckoning it all depends ....... If people are poor, and stupid about food, then yes, they do age faster. On the other hand, wealthy folk eat well - but again, if they stupid/dumb about food - then they seem to get all fragile and weak at a young age.
I grew up in what would be today considered a poor family - we ate very simple food - most things were home-grown and fresh.... Not much red meat (too expensive) but usually home grown/slaughtered chickends were on the menu. There was always boxes of fruit and us kids ate them like others ate sweets. We walked everywhere we wanted to go. Today, most of my age friends are either dead, or very fragile, wizened, old ladies - I am not. My kids and grand-kids marvel that I still move and behave "young". I used to have a grand old doctor friend, and he "insulted" me one day by remarking that he believed I came from a "poor" family - because my physique was very strong. My only problem now is that when I do realy heavy garden work then sometimes I feel like a 60year old woman!
