Eveyone knows, growing up, being labled a "nerd" is a bad thing. Now that we are a bit older, I do not feel that it is, so much.. In fact I am proud to be a Nerd! Yea, so we may need a little help picking out what to wear, and if left to our own devices may have hidious material for window coverings... But still, it could be a lot worse. Well enough of my rambling for now. I would like to hear other peoples opinions on the issue...
No label is a good label...but people tend to pigeon-hole themselves as much as others do. In high school, I was on the football and hockey teams, as well as the chess and Dungeons & Dragons clubs. Perhaps because of the carefree way I carried myself, or perhaps because I was the toughest kid in the school, these latter two things became "cool". All of the sudden, being intelligent was "in". I once told a punk to stop picking on a gentle intelligent little guy because "one day he might be your boss"...and I said it lonnnnnnnnnnng before the world had heard of Bill Gates...
My daughter who is 17 has a very high IQ too but she dropped out of school because she thought she was too smart. Thank goodness she is getting the GED out of the way and can at least trade that in for her high school diploma. She took testa a couple of years ago and tested pre-college on everything except math..she was right at the border. My youngest son pulls "A"s and "B"s mostly. It all depends on the kid.
My older son has "always" been into school from age 3...I guess he was born a nerd..lool
That's because the kid "gets ot"...and good for him! Still, well-rounded is the healthier approach...academics, athletics, social skills...I loved being called "nice" or "sweet"...dunno why...maybe because those were the things that came hardest to me...
just look at bill gates and you know he is laughing all the way to the bank.he knows anyone that owns a computer he has them by the so called balls.he has what everyone needs to run their computer
the so called nerds are some of the smartes people in the world,so in a way when you call someone a nerd to them it is a honor
Like I told my son..make sure you have a life too though. He is working towards going to college and making something of himself. After all his hard work he's gonna be able to actually sit back and be able to do the things he enjoys because he will be successful. He is shy about girls but likes them very much...lol
