Cuba was accused of direspecting human rights. They suffered economic boycott, very convenient to suffocate their economy and make them unable to sustain their political system.
China was accused of disrespecting human rights in different ways and different times. It doesn´t seem to matter much now that they´re such an important economy.
Human rights... those in the universal declaration, right?
Now Brazil. How does freedom of speech help those who are illiterate? How does freedom "to move around" (need help on this one) serve those who live on USD 25 a month? And so on.
Do Human Rights serve their ideal purpose, or are they just cosmetic, and truly serve the exact thing they are supposed to oppose, domination and exclusion?
Human rights much like most forms of altruism are dominated by those who manage our personal and physical environments. The greater the ideal the higher up the food chain of the machine runs the control. Human rights are a catch phrase that generalizes what each of us needs as if we were all the same. The high ad low ends melded together in the middle to subsume the entirely of the populace excluding the ones who run the show of course. After a period of such control it is often used as a carrot to dandle from a stick to ensure compliance and continued support. The Powers That Be determine the ability to have any connection to human rights and in fact define the ideal and redefine it at their whim to goad those lacking such intrinsic basics into a well maintained flock from which they exist.

More succintly, it's the golden rule: Those with the gold make the rules. And if those without the gold disagree with those with the gold then all bets are off and those with the gold simply repress those without.
