I've done it, I fell in love with someone 10 years younger than me. In the end the maturity levels clashed and I was kinda heartbroken. It definitely makes me more cautious now... But in the end can you really tell your heart who to love and not love??

and i really don't think you can... its to bad you ended up heart broken, no body really desires that as an end result but it happens in any type of relationship...

Thanks... Ahh water under the bridge. I don't regret it for a second, I learned a lot of good things from it!
All I can say that as an older women, its fun to have crushes on my young friend of 18, but I would never let them in on it, it just seems like to much work, I would rather have a man that knows what he is doing already, not someone that I would have to train

As one of my fave actresses, Kathryn Hepburn, once said, "You can't choose who you fall in love with."

younger men older women, you know,in some cultures they do it that way, and older men with younger women. it can make sense if you look at it from a strictly sociological point of view, every one is happy.
however., western society tends to not follow that way of thinking, and have decided that there should be an appropriate age difference between 2 people in a relationship. I would like to know who sets the bar regarding appropriate age, a relationship should not have bounderies if it is between 2 consenting adults, it is no ones business but their own. Having said that, I feel uncomfortable about younger men trying to get to know me, because like you daisy I too have found that sometimes not all is as it seems. I suppose it is like any friendship, every thing needs time to sort it self out.

A very wise young man once told me, "Those who mind don't care & those who care don't mind."

Personally I don't see anything wrong with it... It's your own heart you are investing. If I said it would be riskier I would be wrong, any potential relationship can be risky these days. I strongly believe that it must be someone of legal age though!! Just wanted to make that clear But yes, Everything needs time to sort itself out!!
CjTenorSax: In the past, women really did not live very long. Many died due to childbirth or illness. Sadly, many children during those times never lived bast early child hood either. So, there were many men whom might have had ~3 to 7 or more wives by the time they died. So, young women were always, marriageable b/c younger women had a better chance of surviving childbirth and the guy had a decent chance of having a wife to live his lifetime with.
Also, if a woman had not found a husband before she was 25 she was considered a spinster and an old maid,(think shunned by society where men were concerned). If she found somebody after she was a Spinster, there was much gossip and ostracizing of the couple.
So it became Taboo for an older woman to expect any mate let alone a younger mate.
In more recent times, Immunizations, Specialty Doctors/Medicine, longer life expectancy; ( Ironically women now outlive men), changing society, and other factors are reversing the mindsets that created that Taboo.
There is also the fact that there are many more females in the world than males. So many of us are expanding our options to include younger men.
There are other cultures whose young men are having to look outside of their culture, due to centuries of female genocide. So these guys have not enough women to chose from in their countries.
I realize this is all EXTREMELY simplified, here in my explanation. However, you can read about much of it in Anthropology, and Sociology books as well as some history.
DVH13: I'm pretty sure that cute older women going for younger guys is only in the movies??? cause I've noticed that most women don't really want a younger guy cause of the uncertainty of the level of maturity that comes with that kind of relationship???
(but isn't it worth trying sometimes)
idk though, got any ideas
What an interesting question.... I am an older woman... What 'age difference' range are you thinking??? 10?? 20?? 25 years???? I like a younger man... but not a puppy... I don't want to be a mother... with benefits... I wouldn't want to have to pick up after the puppy either... I consider myself young at heart... Just a thought here.....

i guess it wouldn't matter, but your right you cant expect to be like a Mom to some body, but that really just takes it back to a matter of maturity more than age...

And why is the Societal Conditioning different for men & women?? Why is it so acceptable for older men to be with younger women??
that's what started me on this conversation with a friend of mine... I didn't see why there should be such a big difference
