Ok I know I have seen the answer to this somewhere on here before.. but for the life of me, cannot find it now.. Can someone tell me how to turn off the instant messages option on here.. I have specified in my profile.. that I would like to be asked first.. but guess not everyone likes to read the whole profile.. I would just like to know who is contacting me befoehand.. and as far as I can tell there is no way to know this.. so.. How does one turn off instant messages, so that they have to email and ask me first as I have requested? sigh and thanks for your help..teddybear

At the top of the front of the forum click on
'Edit' next to 'My Home'.

After that opens up On the right top of your screen you'll see the word 'Settings'.Click on the link below Settings and I believe IM is the first item and then click on 'yes or no'.

Hopes this helps.

lmao.. Now don't be shy darlin.. tell us how you really feel.. :D Seriously though, there should maybe be an "I'm busy" option? so that those who are already in a conversation or are just browsing profiles.. are not bombarded with im requests? Just a thought.. hug

It's not rude when... you have told someone you are not interested and particularly when your profile says you are Not Looking, and and are here for forums only; then you see that particular person is now IM'ing you....... Frustrating!!!! frustrated very mad When an IM comes through, it should come through with the ID of the person sending the IM. It would alleviate a lot of issues for both sides.

So I keep mine off until someone I do IM with lets me know to turn it on.

Another option.....

when someone is trying to IM you, a pop up box comes up telling you so.......

to check who it is.....go to My Home......on the left hand side you have My Connections......fifth down is IM requests.....that will tell you who is trying to connect you....up to you to decide if you want to say yes or no from the pop up box then....

.....annnnnnnd......if you are IM'ing with somebody and do not want to be disturbed, just close off the CS page entirely....you will then show you are off line but can carry on with the IM anyway......

Just till you get used to it....

For some reason I no longer get the pop up box that asks if I want to accept an IM. The IM window just pops up with the hello or whatever. If I'm already in conversation with someone, or writing a post it means I can't finish that thought because the cursor automatically defaults to the IM window.

IF the pop up box request would pop up I'd decline if were doing something else. I don't have that option, except to turn off the IM thing-which I'll do now! laugh

I just did what you suggested, and voila! There's a list of people who have tried to IM and whether they were successful or not. Thanks gozo! This will surely help.

I'm Eggs, nice to meet you...
