Was thinking this morning, wonder if some here actually come into contact with a breathing human being in the course of their day, or week for that matter. Wonder if their name popping up on Forums is their only form of attention.
Not completely rhetorical.... I've talked with a few that haven't at all known of, or used the feature. I asked because I know of a few regulars who like to spawn off threads and are fully aware of how the thing works who appear to be fishing for attention, you've touched on my thoughts exactly.

to your point Prof- I think people just don't bother to see if there's something similar already. Heck lots of people make threads about just about anything that is running through their heads at the moment. Kind of irritating really.
I've done both yes, but only when the most logical words associated with the topic weren't used in said thread name. I try to keep threads consistant for sanity reasons.
People come here for the live interaction of friends, and yes, that includes wanting attention.
They don’t want to look up an old information to see what other people might have said to someone else who had a similar thought in the past. That's no fun.
Give me attention or give me freedom! But don't give me and old moldy database.
I think of the CS forum more as a chat group than a discussion forum. Discussions do take place here on occasion, but I think the bulk of the activity is just to mingle.
