k with wine last night i came up with blue to begin with as sage 1 saw other 2 wearing blue and 'From the look in their eyes he could see their thoughts were the same as his' .... but missed the line after - ie. "What is the colour of my hat?"

that seemed too easy (and it was as its a wrong deduction) then just reckoned they all took too long so were screwed anyways rolling on the floor laughing

cant give a proof to it now as i read it wrong to begin with ..... so have to give up moping didn't sleep well last night so heads not working today sigh

n btw dont call me a fool ... ya muppet! tongue

right its like this..
you have 3 sets of eyes to look out from, as the 3 lads are as stumped as the one that speaks up..

if there was only one blue hat, then the lad wearing it would see two white hats on the others head thus deducting he had the blue(as stated there are not 3 white hats)

if there were exactly two blue hats.
then two people wearing them would see one blue and one white hat. These two people will very quickly, by virtue of the other's silence, rule out the possibility that there is only one blue hat. One of these two lads would cry blue within a few short minutes

There is only one case which forces the three lads to sit in silence - three blue hats. Our lad, through his sharp wits was the first to reach this conclusion

each lad thinks he has either white or blue, so he sits there, its the fact that they all wait that gives it away
