Hey All.......

Have to admit its very hard......but so far have not been out much in places where I would smoke alot or with people that smoke but I really am determined....was not a heavy smoker and I just think its a horrible amelly habit and I dont want to smoke anymore....but sometimes the ol cravings try to overtake my head....3 weeks down and another 1000 + to go!! haha!!

Hopefully I will last but if I give in - then no harm, just have to start all over again!

Well Done Minimoo! applause banana

I have tried several times to give up and going to try again in a few days. I have heard that the 3rd day, 3rd week and 3rd month are the hardest....for whatever reason. I never got as far as the 3rd month before. I have tried everything in the past from hypnotist to patches to gum etc. This time I am going to use the patches again (as I have a stash of them)...The gum if I get really desperate (i know you shouldn't use both together - but as I said if i get desperate)...And Alan Carrs pocket book.

I read Alan Carrs full book too in the past, and it is really good. Just didnt have enough will power at the time to stay off them. Great book tho...Really makes u feel stupid for smoking.

My dad gave them up with the patches, and he always says that there were stressful times when he would have given anything for a cig, but if he had one the stressful time would still be there....Just like in Alan Carrs book. Second time reading thru the pocket book I decided to turn down the corners of the pages that I might need to enforce my staying off the cigs....I ended up turning down the pages of most of the book...Lol

Keep up the good work minimoo...head banger

i would caution, if anyone does decide to use the patch you must not smoke while on it, it is a shock to the system to have the patch and smoke, has sent plenty of people to emergency with a heart attack/strokes, one only being 42 male, it states it on the package so heed it.

LoopyLinks: That is so true...another thing I heard, for anyone else out there who is thinking of giving up is to eat plenty of fruit...particularly acid fruit....apples and oranges...the acid gets the nicotine out of your system faster. Plus drinking loads of water is supposed to help too.

Have you noticed how you smoke more when you drink alcohol...The reason for this is that the nicotine is leaving your body as you pee, (which you do a lot of when you drink)...And the nicotine monster is then telling your brain that you need another fix....Same thing happens when you are stressed....

Also there are certain pressure points that can relieve cravings...pressing your thumb and forefinger against bridge of your nose is one..(there has to be a better way to describe that - will come back when i think of it)

Now why am i not a non-smoker already?

Constantly think of yourself as a non-smoker, rather than an ex-smoker.

I had wondered why we do this! thumbs up Good to see you backconversing wave

minimoo: I have not had one in 3 weeks!!!

Its still hard though.....anyone else trying to quit or managed it successfully?

its been just over 3 years now and i know exactly how you feel the one thing that helped me the most was having a bottle of water with me at all times ,it helped with the craving and by picking up the bottle it substituted the physical of lightening up ,above all hang in there
good luckdoh
