Phoenix: Here in Brummieville the council thought they got away with exactly what you are talking about...

Birmingham City Council and the joint trade unions have reached an agreement to settle equal pay claims brought mainly by female employees who missed out on bonuses.

Thanks for that Phoenix. It's actually a completely different thing but I hadn't seen that case, so thanks for it. I did a thread on 'equal pay for work of equal value' last October after I was contacted by a trade unionist friend who was outraged at this new move. He said the Unions are so full of Feminist men and women that they straigh away caved in to this United Nations attack on lower paid male workers.

In the case of Birmingham City Council, care assistants, cooks and cleaners were on the same pay grade as bin men, grave diggers and street sweepers. However, the more difficult and dangerous jobs that require working in the rain, and which require a lot more flexibility and cooperation with the environment and public at unsociable hours are done by men because women CHOOSE to do the easier jobs. The jobs that attract a bonus for extra hard work are therefore the ones chosen by men. Women are free to work as bin men where they can get gouged with glass, bitten by dogs, crushed by the truck or cars but they instead choose to work more sociable and safer hours. But now, thanks to 'equality', they can work sociable hours in nice dry, safe, warm conditions and get the same bonus as men who break their balls.

It’s estimated the cost of this to Birmingham City Council will be £3 billion with the average payout to the cleaning ladies being £134,000. This will be passed on to the people of Birmingham in higher council charges. In the long run it will men councils will be unable to pay workers doing hazardous jobs a bonus and productivity will fall. The women will be back to where they were before and the men will lose the hard won bonuses they fought for down the years. Well done Feminism, the workhorse of the global elite.

As a further example of the above, workers who are paid a bonus for working at dangerous heights will now either see cleaning ladies and child care workers get exactly the same bonus or (more likely) have their bonus taken away or split with the cleaning ladies because the employer can't afford to pay a double bonus. This is what working at height is like. Most women choose not to do this sort of work and why should they when they can get the bonus for making tea in a nice safe cafe?

facetowardsfront: I have a couple of questions for people who believe the conspiracy theory that there is a "gender pay gap" whereby women are paid 70% (or therabouts) of what men are paid, for doing the exact same job.
1. Why don't employers only hire women if they cost only 70% as much as men

2. Who exactly is in on this conspiracy?

When I started working all single staff where paid the same rate but married men where paid more. At that time it was still popular for women to stay at home when they had children, it was actually only a few years after married women could legally work. Never gave it a thought then.

The marriage ban was lifted in 1973, that's 41 years ago. You're response is to my question about the often cite 'gender pay gap today

As a Feminist can you answer either or both of these questions? The 'gender pay gap' is a main issue for you Feminists but us rational people who use logic and reason will say that it is a ficticious nonesense.

Just forget it, even when I try to simply contribute to a thread you have a go, I flipping knew when I saw you looked at my profile that you were checking my age. I started work in 1978 when I was 15, just 5 years after the bann was lifted.

I have NEVER claimed to be a feminist. And I have NEVER said there was a gender pay gap.

I have no problem discussing ancient history but I was hoping to stay on topic for once.

I'm not sure why you posted that? Did you mean to give me a laugh or do you think it proves there is a 'gender pay gap? An article in the Indo, with no citations proving facts? Mmmmm, nah you musta meant to just give me a laugh.

The media is full of such lies but most are better told than the Indo. Look at this lie from RTE

"Women earn 17% less than men" they claim (these lies are spread on our tax money)

The FACT is that according to an OECD report, not some bunch of Feminists making up figures to suit their ideology, unmarried women earn 17% MORE than men. When they get married, have children and decide to stay at home the 'gap' starts to emerge. A gap in earnings, not pay. If you don't go to work you don't get paid. Sorry gals, that's not 'oppression'.

(This article cites it's source, which is the OECD report)

Actually I had a bet that you would say it was lies and would blame it on feminists.

Cheers

Yes, you can always rely on me to call Feminist lies what they are. Facts on the other hand can not be disputed and I notice that you don't dispute them, instead choosing to ignore them. Standard.
