I'm a bit of a crime book lover. The whodunnits with the science bits left in are my favourite.

Clive Cussler, Faye Kellermann, Jack Higgins. More recently I've also enjoyed Ross O'Carroll-Kelly... hilarious.

hello there..and again..thank´s for a great thread!!!Well...what does herodotos mean today...nothing...But as an "world-traveller",and a historian,-he was afantastic author...He was eyewitness to everything(almost anyway),and wrote in an easy way...Giving us details about all those long, forgotten times&places...But no relevance to this day,-still beautiful...There´s an Arabic traveller as well,-Al-Idrisi...which described the European continent back in early 1100 as well...but probably from second hand info.Great as well...

I agree that reading that takes you out of your own space and opens new personally unchartered places and, in some cases, forgotten worlds/ times/ cultures too, is very enjoyable.

I love reading and will try anything that is will written, the only books I am not keen on are Horror or Sci Fi. ' Three men in a Boat' is my all time fav. another book that sticks in my mind is Disordered Minds by Minette Walters, I have read a few of her books. Bernard Cornwell,Following the wars of ' Uthred ' Anita Shreve is also very good in my opinion. My list is endless. At the moment am an reading Nancy Mitford ' Don't tell Alfred ' ....Don't ask why and I am not really enjoying it.

hi Mari wave ..

I checked the link, but without signing up they aren't giving much away about it .. can you explain what the concept of setting a book free entails? I've heard of leaving books around for others to pick up, but setting books free seems a little more involved ..

also, speaking of Three Men ... have you seen

I recommend ALL the books written by Deepak Chopra and neale Donald Walsch.

and maybe one other by Eckert Tolle called The Power of NOW!

Don't let any of the titles put you off - the material is worthwhile reading!

Thank you for the link, I did hear sometime ago that a film or TV prog. was being made about it. But not having TV never got to see.

I read the book THREE times and laughed my way through each time.......time to read it again maybe, it has been many years.

Book Crossing is just a way of tracking where the book you leave travels.. Of course it does depend on the finder logging in the information. ( Which you mark in the book before leaving it for someone to find. I have left a few books about, some I have been able to see follow. Bit of fun. Also of course everyone there are real book lovers.

The favourite of all times: ”Overburdened with Evil” by Strugatsky brothers. They also wrote few books that become cult-books over generations: “Dead Mountaineer’s Hotel”, “Hard to be god”, and of course “Picnic” (Tarkovsky read this book and asked the writers to write a scenario to his film “Stalker”, and movie is few orders weaker than the book).

Not that long time ago I’ve discovered James Ellroy and read all I could find, “American Tabloid” and “Six Thousand Cold” are real poison: after I’ve read them I couldn’t read anything else for some while.

Ed McBain. Of course.

Last reading…’ve re-read “Night Manager” by Le Carré. Have read it in Russian first, then in Swedish, now in English. The best book when you need an injection of pathos. (I needed one).

I don't read as much as I should, but when I do it has to be non fiction. I like biography's and read a great one about Jim Morrison called ''noone here gets out alive''. So much of what he was really like was missed out in the movie.

Might be a dumb question but is it about the mafia, and is it a true story? I like to read those types of books too, and one I really liked was called ''The Westies'' about the Irish gansters in New York. Crazy story but interesting.

I'd never have you down as a science fiction fan .. I'd have said 'The Structural Evolution of Advanced Thermal Dynamic Economic Calculus for Dummies' was your favourite book .. haven't you read that one? ..
