We shouldn't judge it before we've seen it all! I think that all 'fiction' contains an element of truth, as do myth and legend. Those ideas came from somewhere tangible.
It is said that; "if it can be imagined then it is possible."
I believe that the characters created in science fiction, including the mutations of the human species, are all memories within the fiction writer's subconcious brought to the surface. Who is to say that he/she did not live a past existence on such a planet or planets, within our universe that inhabit these forms of life? We only call it fiction because we haven't seen it exist within this/our reality.
Some more food for thought. We know that dinosaurs were not ficticious because we have discovered evidence of their existence, yet we continue to say that Atlantis and Lumuria are 'myths'. According to Plato's "Republic", Atlantis existed during the last age of aquarius over 26,000 years ago. The dinosaurs existed 65 million years ago and we have only recently, within the past few centuries, discovered their remains. Give it another 60 million years, maybe the lost continent of Atlantis will be discovered. By that time we humans may have already fallen into extinction and our race and stories will be considered a 'myth' to those who inherit the earth after us.
