Poetry Group Forum

This is a place where we can discuss new topics for poetry projects or challenges, talk about well known poets that we like - even Shakespeare! Hopefully by sharing our reading experiences we can expand our knowledge of poets and poetry and inspire each other. We could also use these pages to post 'How to' articles for new poets, ie How to write a particular form of poem, for example a Haiku, or e... read more

comments on poetry corner pet peeve... (13)

we have many more writers on this site these days. sometimes I wish that comments did NOT bring poems back to the top of page one. lately when I log on, it seems more and more like I'm seeing the same poems by the same people displayed there. some writers, to name goodguy for one, never comment on their own submissions. some others may comment once or twice on their own works. while still others comment every time that there is a new comment by others. I notice many writers that will delay their comments on their own works for a day or so, and maybe only do this once or twice. I would guess that they do this so as to not hog the limelight continuously. this practice seems to work out fine, but my thought is for writers comments on their own poems to NOT bring them back to fore, nor count as views for that matter. From time to time, I myself have commented on some of my past work to bring it back to fore, most often in response to another writer's subject. So, I am guilty as well. I don't know what the solution is. It's just that lately a writer will post four, five, ten, poems in only a short time, then the comments begin, then the comments on comments begin, and their stuff remains at or near the top for a day or so. It's boring. I think the solution is to never bring poems back to fore, or for writer's comments on their own work to not bring them back to fore, or for me to just forget about it, go nap for a while and then go finish mowing the lawn...hedi

after writing this pet peeve, I went to poet's corner where I saw that one of andrew's old riddles had surfaced with a new comment. seems as if my ideas may possibly stifle the back and forth mirth (how I/we love our mirth) that currently exists in such a post. or would it? any ideas or is this much ado about nothing? nevermind, it's off my chest. I'll go mow now...

i for one, have already finished mowing my lawn...keep pushin' hedi! ;-)

Understand what you say hedistuff I often wondered myself what to do, I do not come on here everyday but it seems a bit rude not to thank people who have read and put a comment. To do that collectively or one by one??? Of course this is not just a poetry site and friendships albeit net ones are formed by the comments too. I think a big read marker saying only one poem a day or something may help???
Oh well off to find a lawn to mowlaugh Take care now and thanks for the welcome back too.

I agree with redex on commenting being good manners. But I am the world worse at commenting back. I forget and have commented after a year of my poem being down and bought it back to lifelaugh There is no answer that I know of. dunno But I could make a small suggestion on what I would do if I were you. I would not feed my pet peeve, those things can grow really bigwow Starve it till it disappears. Ya know Mr Stuff I am just completely full of bs and you are right I find myself digging looking for poems I have missed but life goes on. teddybear

personally I think there are bigger issues in life too worry about then how many poems one has posted. just close your eyes and don't worry about little petty things.

I just love you Happy - you just made me laugh out loud with your 'bs' remark - the truth is you are most definitely not full of it.

As for you Mr Stuff, I hope you feel better having got that load off your chest. laugh laugh I had an image of you sitting at your pc banging away at the keys with gusto as you got it all out and I say 'good for you'. What you said made me examine my own habits on the poetry corner - as that's what they are just habits.
I don't have time to comment all day so I guess I do pick my favourite poets and if I'm moved I'll comment that's all. Sometimes I will comment just to say hello to someone I haven't reached out to for a while sorry about that bouquet
I wonder does anybody else have pet peeves they'd like to air?

Hi Hedi

I agree with much of what you say, I am pleased you posted this. I agree too with Redex, I feel it is ill mannered not to comment, I also love reading the comments.

I object to people not answering their own poems for a couple of year, then bringing them up later. thumbs up wine

Hey hun, it won't be the first time I found a piece of worn shoe leather in my mouth - and this is the place to air such worries eh? I think that's how I see someone's pet peeve - as a kind of worry, sometimes it's a really personal feeling that owes itself to the personality that feels it - sometimes it turns out that it's felt by a lot of people and who knows what can happen when this is true. I think this is a good place to air these things teddybear teddybear

I agree with hedi, poems tend to get lost in the crowd with so many new posters as of late. Despite my work schedule, I do try to comment as often as possible and thank everyone. angel

I'm beginning to contemplate posting my work here so that it doesn't get lost.

you could be on to something there ROS reunion <---- haven't crossed paths with you for ages! hug There is also a poetry thread on the forums, but I suspect it is used more for random political threads - perhaps the braver poets could reclaim it and shoo out the plebs laugh However, having said that, I suspect some of the newer posters may not stick around that long - it seems to go in waves and troughs regarding the number of regular posters.
Hope all is well with you and the bear teddybear
