Poetry Group Forum

This is a place where we can discuss new topics for poetry projects or challenges, talk about well known poets that we like - even Shakespeare! Hopefully by sharing our reading experiences we can expand our knowledge of poets and poetry and inspire each other. The Forgiven Self (2)

cafetwo2010
To forgive..
To love..
To be human..
For with what love
shall be the judge
of our forgiving?
Shall the offence of our
brother be weighed merely
on the scales of human
justice?
Brother arraigned by brother
and interogated in the court
of human love?
To be human..
To love..
To forgive..what is that?
Shall man play the God?
Or shall man judge in
the image of himself?
Can such a thing be?
To judge..to lay the axe upon
the head of the guilty..
Is forgiveness a law
unto itself?
To love..
To be a judge..
Who shall forgive?
Who can forgive?
To be God..
To be man..
To be anything..is but
a faith..
If I look inward I condemn
myself..
Outward..and I allow another
to slay me..
To love..
To forgive..
I choose my judge..
I choose my standard..
I choose to accept who
has loved me and by that
love my standard is set..
And my brother is condemned
or set free by my judge..
To forgive..
To play upon a frail humanity,
and whip the back of my brother
for his slightest offence..is
an earthly arrogance..
But to throw my pride into the
abyss of an imperfect human
nature..is to capture the divine..
And to be divine..is to forgive~
