The Call

I've been reincarnated through the centuries; I declare,
I got my gift of rebirth from the ancient gods of war.
In '98 I met my fate by Slaney's bloodied tide;
With Sarsfield down in Limrick town I bravely fought and died.
And I would be prepared again to fight, if need be fall-
My life to state for Irelands sake, If I could only hear the call!

And when they raised the flag of green above the GPO
I fought and died at Pearse's side on the crowed floor below.
In '39 I read the sign and rallied to the call
And joined the ranks out firing blanks in the Glen of wild Immal
For Ireland I was always there prepared to give my all
And gladly would again if I could only hear the call!

But the hearing's gone, I'm deaf as a stone and suffering
from eye strain
I've got varicose vains and rheumatic pains
and I'm a martyr to migraine,
I'll never be ok again, thats the Solictor's prediction!
Tho' he thinks that 50 grand might ease this crual affliction;
Of course he's absolutely right, but still in spite of all,
My life I'd stake for Irelands sake, If I could only hear the call!!
