Captured Hearts
Author: Unknown
I lost you long ago,
Before we ever met,
When your heart was forged in steel
By one whose name shall rest unsaid.
Still, one day we will be young again,
Ten thousand summers gone.
A glance across some shadowed street
Will catch our fleeting breath.
Deep dark eyes that held in thrall
A love beyond recall,
Will stir a hidden well of life
Within my whispered soul.
Your smile will bear the distant words
Of long forgotten friends,
Their dreams to cast a spell for us
From gods' immortal height.
Though this world may sweep away
All memories, all pain,
Our light will touch this place and fill
These captured hearts, once more.
Heaven itself can rise or fall,
The dust of angels drift,
But I would neither see, nor care,
If this time together's all.

About this poem:
I loved her then, as I do now. But she was wild and strange, and even though she promised her love for ever, I knew even then it would only be there in those moments, locked in time. It is long ago now, but I wrote it after she was gone to tell myself that maybe it is possible to meet again, one day when we are different people, but still with the spark inside us of who we once were.
