I like fake trees that look real because they don't make as much environmental waste as killing a live tree every year. Fake trees are also less likely to burn up and they don't put pine needles all over the place to poke your feet. You don't have to try to keep them watered. If you get sick of a fake tree, you can donate it.
Did you know that Christmas trees have Pagan origins? Google it.

New studies suggest fake trees leave a worse carbon footprint.
"Reviewing the research on the two types of trees, Springer notes that you would have to keep an artificial tree for 20 years before its carbon footprint is smaller than that of 20 real trees. These numbers come from a 2009 study conducted by the consulting firm Ellipsos."
You can google for the reasons why, rather than me cutting and pasting a whole load of text.
