I watched the interview between Lance and Oprah a few nights ago. I understand how the American public feel defrauded by Lance, as I felt the same been a fan for many years. I couldn't help think though that Oprah Winfrey was the greater fraud. How did she make billions from chat shows? A complete fraud!!
venusenvy: Wow! I think you have a serious case of Oprah envy
Nope! Just left disappointed by the interview. She just read scripted questions and couldn't develop Lance's answers independently of these. To sum it all up she finished with something like "Thank you for trusting me to do this interview.!" I proceeded to get sick all over myself! A manufactured fraud!!

I haven't watched her show for some time so I couldn't really give an honest opinion either way.I also don't believe everything I hear or read in/on the news.
mr1983: I'm judging her on her interview techniques and skills. And these are pathetic. She reads set questions from scripts. That much is clearly apparent from this interview. I'm not criticizing her for her charity work, etc.
I think theres a big diff between being successful and being a fraud...If she followed scripted questions, it may be that it had to be agreed upon in order for the interview to happen. This is quite common practice.

At the start of the interview, it was stated by both that there was to be no set questions. At times Lance evaded questions. She did not push in these instances. At other times, the scripted questions actually managed to get a response out of Lance. He responded and seemed he was willing to open up on certain points. Oprah failed to see these openings and usually completely changed the subject by asking the next scripted question. She is an amateur interviewer at best. Therefore as she has made her name interviewing people, I think it is fair to say she is a manufactured fraud. I'm not denying she has worked hard and has done a lot for charity. But we could say the same about Lance. He probably worked harder and has done more for charity. It doesn't mean he isn't a fraud. I think Jeremy Paxton should interview both of them and we will soon get to the truth!!

Well, Im sorry the interview didnt go the way YOU think it should have. There are probably a lot of legalities involved that directed the course of the questions as well. I think your getting hung up on semantics

The questions where legalities came into it, Lance simply evaded or surprise, surprise lied in his answers. There was plenty of questions and topics he was willing to be open about but Oprah simply didn't develop these. I believe that was because she failed to see the openings or due to the fact that direction didn't suit what she wanted from the interview. One of the questions she asked was "Did anyone else ever know the full details of what you were doing?". Lance responded yes. The following questions had the possibilities of opening up many avenues. The structure of the doping scandal within the team could have been questioned. I think Lance was willing to delve into certain areas of this. Especially pre-2005. What did Oprah ask while cutting him off his answer? "Was it Christine your wife?" Or something nonsense like that. And yet again we failed to get to the bottom of the doping scandal.

I highly doubt that given the opportunity to get into scandal or deep questions, she would CHOOSE not too. After all, shes quite famous for that very thing. Shes certainly far to powerful to be intimidated. I believe their are probably politics involved that we are not aware of...Given the pending law suits etc, it must have been a legal mine field.

I'd disagree with your assertion of her being powerful. Lance controlled the interview. She asked questions which Lance avoided. However she missed huge opportunities. She wanted it to become a soppy, emotional get together where she could get him to cry. Everyone would be emotional and she would be hailed as a savior. The comments of WADA, David Walsh and Paul Kimmage after the interview are enlightening. They basically brushed it aside as nonsense. It is quite clear that they have labelled it nothing more than a farce!

making money from chat shows, and magazine, and advertising endorsements and movies and investing wisely.... that is no fraud - that is just pure capitalism at work....

Whos to say what her mind-set was in this? I have the interview recorded on pvr I just havent had a chance to watch it yet. Ive just been following the news reports so far. So I cant comment on whether she handles it well or not. I just think theres much more going on than what we see on the surface. If there is a huge investigation into the entire genre (and there should be) Imagine the legalities involved in this interview...

lance armstrong is the biggest sporting scumbag of all time, he takes millions from people and rolls in his sick glory,on the other hand oprah, sometimes only comments on what she wants people to know,in that case she is some sort of fraud, but weighing up the bad against the good,at least oprah gives to the people, she doesnt take .She is a national asset, lance armstrong is a national disgrace

now Martha Stewart.... she was the criminal.
Passing herself off as a professional interviewer when she is not is fraud in my book.

That's a fair point. Calling her a bigger fraud than Armstrong was probably over the top. But a fraud she is nonetheless. She should have stayed with her nonsense chat shows where emotion drew from realities of the situations. Something for the sheep to follow and cry to. She should leave the interviewing to interviewers who will get to the bottom of a story. There is enough of the soppy, political correct bullsh-it on the T.V as it is!

For the OP. Lance Armstrong had the cheek to deny cheating and drug taking through a libel trail. His word means nothing now. If he was to say he'd has cornflakes for breakfast, I'd wouldn't believe him
