punkrocker2: What is the difference between them? Aren't they all kinda the same? Seriously I don't know.........

The biggest differences between martial arts systems is their combat approach to movement. Linear or Circular, Hard or Soft. Although all systems have these elements one usually dominates and are Hard and Linear or Soft and Circular.

Linear - straight ahead or head on using offensive and defensive moves in a straight line. Usually requires more energy.

Circular - primarily using offensive and defensive circular movements. Uses less body energy by using the opponents energy against himself.

Hard style - very aggressive and offensive using hard blows primarily linear in motion like straight punches, blocks, and kicks.

Soft style - more passive and defensive using an opponents aggressive energy against him primarily using circular movements.

Although all martial arts systems have elements of both one usually dominates.

For example:

Karate, Taekwondo, and Tang Soo Do, are primary using hard straight line punches, blocks, with some circular kicks(using allot of energy) moving forward.

Aikido, Hapkido, and Jujisu, primarily using circular movements and parries to deflect blows moving backwards and using the opponents energy against himself. Very few kicks and more grappling type moves with arm locks and joint manipulation techniques. The opponent is usually drawn into a circular movement then it's reverse while manipulating a wrist technique and the opponent usually gos flying in another direction.

This explanation is very concise and in no way definitive as a much clearer explanation would take a book to cover.
