missingLondon: I'm a highly educated woman who has trouble finding someone on a similar wavelength on this site. It seems some men have trouble spelling or speaking properly. Am I being shallow not looking past the level of education or practical in reasoning that if a man doesn't have an intellectual streak he will not meet my intellectual needs?

Intellect is over-rated.

Some of the most highly educated people I have ever met in my life have been the most cold and ungiving.

There's a big difference between someone whose grammer and spelling is somewhat lacking, and someone who is simply rude and ignorant. The former is perfectly acceptable; the latter is not.

In answer to your OP, I would say that if you want a NASA scientist/brain surgeon/Attorney General as a mate, then your on the right track. If you want a warm, loving, Joe Bloggs-type, who will treat you like a lady, then maybe you need to change your approach a tad.

I am an educated man and curiously, I am offended by this... Not sure why that is, maybe it's because I have had my share of intellectuals and find them to be a bit stuffy and generally not very wise.. There is a fine line between wisdom and intelligence and my experience has been that most intellectuals cannot cross over that line. Please do not take offense as this is not a commentary on you in particular but rather an opinion based on my own personal experiences..bouquet

Costapacket: Perhaps your an educational SNOB!
of course she's an "educational" snob. But then again, we are all snobs in one department or the other. You even have snobs that look down on people that have no tattoos, they are the dreaded tattoo snobs. If I had to choose, I'd be an educational snob anytime. Mind you, being and educational snob doesn't necessarily mean that you are educated yourself.

Lets be honest this in online dating . If your looking for someone with Masters or Doc you should try find a site that caters for the men you what to meet.

I prefer intelligent men, but my spelling is terrible but that does not mean i am not intelligent.

Einstein was dyslexic . Another point is that alot of self made millionairs were not highly educated .

My two sister have both masters but one is a smart the other lacks common sence .

plus you cant have all it ha hatongue

No you are wrong. Not all picky women are materialistic. I am very picky but I am NOT meterialistic. I have my own money and things. I don't need or want anyone's.

This is what I meant with my previous post.

I am not looking for or wanting a highly intelligent man. I am looking for someone who can hold a decent conversation and knows a bit about somethings. A man who can be fun and loving and knows how to behave in public (no swearing or spitting although he may swear at home he may not spit lol). If he has a problem with words as in writing or reading or spelling .. isnt that why the phone was invented? But I will not put up with someone who cant read or write just because they couldnt be bothered to learn .. if they cant be bothered to learn the basics in life then they wont learn about me. A good conversation means words of more than one syllabul being strung together without the word derrr being added - as in 'derrr dunno'.
As for the speaking part .. apart from illness and accident I cant see why any one should not be able to learn to speak properly. JMHOhandshake

missingLondon: I have no problems with non-native speakers as long as their intelligence is such that we can have meaningful conversation. What I cannot justify is how a non-native speaker like me can speak and write better than a native speaker. That to me shows and unwillingness to learn and improve.

Amen! Thank you.

opentuit: I wasn't trying to be funny. I meant it sincerely. How you feel matters. You wouldn't and shouldn't get into a relationship with someone you know you cannot respect, whatever your reasons may be.

For you grammar and syntax are part of the general impression a person makes. Other people have the same reaction to other kinds of triggers: wrinkled clothes, not shaving everyday, type of employment, wearing cheap shoes, lots of tattoos, regional accent, etc.

The point is that if someone makes a bad impression on you, and you know that you won't be able to respect that person, the decision is already made.

First impressions are lasting.

We are all educated, savvy, whatever, in different ways and levels but it doesn´t necessarily preclude success in a relationship.
