The film footage shown on television was shown perhaps to incite further unrest between the factions in order for outside forces to go in and keep order.
I think the whole thing has been a distraction in order to gain control of the oil and gas in the country. I find the British Government's comments on the situation completely laughable considering the British SAS have been training Gaddafi's elite armed forces for the past six years and the British police doing the same for his police force. Blair was his close advisor and the whole situation was just another opportunity to sell arms and gain wealth.
I am not saying that he wasn't despised by many of his people, I knew a young man in the eighties who was a student in the UK and had been ordered to return to his country, he was very afraid but even more afraid not to because of the threats to his family. He returned and I never heard from him again.
Despot, corrupt dictator or whatever the film of his body being beaten after death was disgusting and unnecessary for journalistic purposes therefore it was shown for some other purpose.
